The short answer is yes, a sectional will work in your room. There are a multitude of sizes available on the market so it is important to measure your space. In fact, its a good idea to mark the dimensions on your floor using painters tape. Arrange the sofa placing widest section facing your chosen focal point (I suggest TV). If its a large scale room consider floating the sectional in the middle rather than against a wall. Add long sofa table behind largest section of sofa. Stand a pair of lamps on the ends of the sofa table. If you select an open leg style sofa table then consider placing two large scale baskets underneath. Baskets add great style and tidy storage for blankets games etc. Sounds like an exciting project.

No sectional for me. A couch and one or two chairs gives more decor options.

It appears from the dimensions of your room the sectional will easily fit. I agree with the first answer, if there is a long side to your sectional face it towards your television. I would place the long side against your left wall (in the photo) but place the sofa table perpendicular to the wall behind the portion of the sectional that sticks out. That would allow it to be accessible for the previously stated lamps and knickknacks.

Everything in your room is balanced...the ceiling squares...the columns...the fireplace...to me ...two focal points detract from this...(the other feature that doesnt fit with the more refined setting is the rustic fireplace...i would either paint it white or cover it with a wood facade)... then put the tv over the fireplace...depending on the dimensions you could then have room for loveseats or recliners on each side..with couch facing the focal point

This would also allow for floating the furniture away from the walls ...which usually feels more roomy and less cramped...than furniture tight to the walls
