Well IMO it is too bad you had a bad experience but to be honest bad mouthing by name with only your word is IMO not good. Launch a BBB complaint that if people are smart is where they will find those complaints.

Apparently HVAC licensing is not required in Minnesota. If it were, I'd suggest making a formal complaint with the state against them. Much more powerful than the BBB.

Ron that is not what Patricia is saying- she is saying that if people are looking for ratings of HVAC contractors they are more likely to go to the local BBB than to a discussion forum on Houzz.

But smart people also google the name of the company.

I believe smart people look at reviews from customers in their area as well as the BBB. Isn't this why you have a forum? Also @graywings123: Where do you think I found this site???? Not my fault they are listed in on this webpage and Google showed that in a search. My feedback is 100% legit. I can prove it. So can my City. If this offends the company that did the work, then maybe they shouldn't have laughed in my face and said "Is that the best you can do???" when I said I would go to the BBB. The more reviews, the better....

The City of Golden Valley FORCED them to pull the permit for our house almost 2 years from the date of install.

And what issues did the city inspector find when he came to inspect the install? FYI: That’s how cities make their money, Ron. Building permit fees, business license fees, sales tax...they’re all just different ways of generating revenue. I hope you don’t think the city was on some altruistic crusade when it held the HVAC company’s feet to the fire. It was just going after what it was owed.

For one, they won't come to the house, they do it on DUO. Secondly, I was waiting to get it inspected, hoping we could come to a reasonable agreement, and replace with the proper sized unit, before inspecting. Saving the company money to not have to pull an additional permit once the proper sized unit was installed. I was, and am, just being nice and good about it. And yes, I understand how Cities work.

Smart people do look at reviews FROM THEIR AREA. However there are very few if any people on this forum that are from your area. A neighborhood or regional site is where people go when they want to look at reviews of companies in their area.

Lyfia, My AC doesn't cycle at all until after midnight. It just runs all day long. And my electric bill will confirm that it is definitely NOT saving me money or being more efficient by doing that. We can hardly tell it is even blowing compared to what we had before they undersized our unit. And yes, it has a new filter in it and coil is not clogged. Coil was actually cleaned recently, so we know it is the blower that is acutely undersized. Company that installed laughed in our face and offered to replace for an additional $3,500.00.

Who on earth would pay 7 grand for an 80% efficient furnace with no AC package??? Would you???

All city ordinances in Minnesota REQUIRE a mechanical permit and some also require a city license to work golden valley requires a city license. Sec. 16-269 of the city code states: "It is unlawful for any person to engage in the business of installing heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment without a license from the City."

Sec. 16-270 also requires bonding. With what I provided I'm curious to know who's name was used as the installer for the permit? If it was Air Knight's HVAC they had a city license so there is some confusion here.

I'm not trying to defend the contractor, and having a license doesn't make one qualified but was there an agreement on what what would be done and installed, or did they give you options and you said "as cheap as possible"? These items need to be disclosed to validate your rant. Your problem seems to be CFM's so post the name and model number of the unit and I can look it up. The fan speed may be incorrectly set if it has a PCM motor so knowing what you have is important along with the size of your house and the a/c unit. There is also a chance your problem is air leakage in the ducts throughout the house effecting air lose or incorrect configuration of your trunk and takeoffs that could be causing the problem not related to Air knight's installation or the furnace quality. Some good pictures could also help.

I'm in California, where the Contractors State License Board is where California residents check the license status of contractors. It's also where you file complaints against contractors. I live in an unincorporated area of Sacramento County, and building permits are issued by the County.

Ron, do you have a local Yelp review you could leave? many people utilize that as a resource too. and I know if the company sees any poor reviews on Yelp, they will do something about it so that you'll remove it. Worth a shot.

Kevin9408, I will get you the information on the furnace. Home is 2200 square feet. I will post the furnace info for you tomorrow. For now all I can tell you is it is 14 inches wide. I will have more info tomorrow. Also, they didn't pull a permit, which is required by the city. Also makes it a nightmare when someone sells their house. The city made them pull it after 2 years from install because I wanted it inspected as it should have been from the start. I was away from home for awhile and my wife had them replace "apples to apples". And that was what she thought happened until I came home and noticed all the sheetmetal work to reduce the plenum from the 20 inch "A" coil down to the now 14 inch furnace.
