exterior question

Hi, we are finishing up the exterior of our home. Originally we were putting thin stone on the walls below the porch and around the garage. But now with the stone walls in the landscaping we are concerned there is too much stone. Any other ideas on how to finish this area? Thank you!

I think you've gone overboard with the size of the stones and they are stealing the show, but not in a good way. Perhaps horizontal siding matched to the board and batten would be subtle and do the job.

Something flat and plain. Maybe wide board lap siding.

Don't run the driveway all the way to the lower wall. Allow for some plantings.

I think your house and the walls look good and once the landscaping is done it will look all tied together.

I think it will be fine. Just make sure the size and color of the stacked stone doesn't feel completely out of left field. Something like this in a grayer tone would be great:

Thank you! Love the idea houssaon of the plantings at the driveway, and the mock up done by Dig Doug. We realize the stone is a lot of big stones, but we are also confident that the plantings will soften everything up and even disguise some of the stone. Below is the stone we were planning on using on the garage.

I think I would try to saty in the same color family for the garage to avoid the 'banana split' look (too busy/many different things going on with one house). I like Dig Doug's mock up a lot!

I like your stone, but if you could get it in a darker color that would be better.

Stick with the stone veneer for the garage level. It is not too much stone and will help anchor and transition the house with the stone wall terraces. The landscape will soften the look more than most people realize.

There comes a time for many when they say, I paid good money for those rocks and I want to see them ...... again. That is when the landscape plants start coming out.

Adding another type of stone, I'd be afraid was like dressing with a plaid and a stripe ... clash & conflict. A more plain surface, like brick for example, might be less risky.

    We talked about brick..

Driveway walls need plants spilling over the top. These don't have to hide all of the rocks, just have enough presence to soften them. And make it so there is something to look at where the slope and drive meet besides a bunch of rocks.

Well we stuck with our original stone idea. Used regular mortar on the outside, white mortar on the fireplace, same stone. Our stone guy was amazing! Look at that stonework on the fireplace!
