are the pots in the grouind.. or just on top of the soil ...

what did you fill the pots with ... was it premoistened???

when did you pot them.. after repotting.. i usually leave a new plant in full bright shade.. for about a month to get over transplant shock ...

they are deciduous trees.. it is september ...the sun is in decline.. starting the process ... the transplanting.. the stress ... may have speed that up a bit ...

water it properly ... and even if it goes dormant.. it should be ok come spring ... presuming the potting itself doesnt cause winter problems ... and that depends on where you are ...

They are a lot easier to take care of in the ground. But I grow my collection of a couple dozen JM's only in containers so that is an option as well. In Atlanta, you should not have to worry about them in containers over winter unless the temps drop into the low 20's for any length of time. That could put them at risk for cold damage to the roots.

btw, if you do keep them in containers, make sure each tree has its own :-)

yes they would be better.. and the whole process easier.. if you just put them in the ground ...

playing gardener in pots... is just a second hobby on top of gardening .. and can be very hard .. and lead to lots of losses.. as you learn how to do it ...

trees in pots is even harder .. and you will have to take the trees out every year or two.. and root prune the trees to stay in smaller pots ... or move into bigger pots ...

i have a feeling you have an inclination to treat these as babies ... and they arent ... they are trees ... and the inclination to babying them is just verging on loving them to death ...

shove them in the ground ... cuss at them a bit.. and put a 3 foot stake next to them.. so you remember not to step on them.. and then water them in properly.. and they should be all set for next spring ...

its just makes it so easy ... and takes away a hundred variables the pots add ...

I want to keep for now one in the pot ! Not sure which would be a good place for the other one ? I was thinking maybe behind the roses or on the side of the house ! Any thoughts ? Thk you guys

Where did you get them? If named forms, they should have come wth a full name label. If not, then they are probably just species seedlings.

I'm not sure I see any sort of graft....in which case, likely a seedling and therefore just the straight species, Acer palmatum.

They came with no tag or label at all?

seedlings are often produced.. for people who graft .. or plan on grafting ... and excess sold or given away cheap ...

and that is not to say.. they wont turn out to be gorgeous trees.. in tree time.. a few decades ...
