I might consider shifting the desk so it is facing out the door and then have additional furniture behind it. I think 2 chairs on the left wall when you walk in. add a large piece of art on the back wall instead of the mirror and a rug. concept below.

My guess is that your office space is a windowless room looking into a larger space from french doors.

Is the room outside the office space very active, like a family room? If so, would it be too distracting while you are working? I have my desk under the windows and like working with my back to the "action" of the room so I can concentrate. There are no right or wrong layouts, it just has to do with your preference.

Looking into the desk with the console behind is the most pleasant when entering. The wall facing the french doors is the logical wall for art/wallcover.

What does the adjoining room look like? Would be a help for you to post a pic, so we can get an idea of your style.

another thought is to shift the view out the window, i thought i might have seen a window to the right as you walk in, but not sure. so have the desk floating facing the window and then have additional desks and bookcases on the wall to the right as you walk in, behind the desk.

i like the idea of facing out the window, but would put the cabinet behind the desk. it looks nice though to see the desk looking out the french doors from a visual perspective.

I think I like it facing the French doors with the console table in the back. I will look for the rug next.

The layout is your first priority. The console stays in the existing position and the desk centered in front of it looking towards the french doors. Keep the lounge chair in the right corner, reupholster it and add an small footstool in a great fabric.

Concentrate on the back wall. Your console is small, so anything goes.

1) Determine your needs. Do you need a bookcase? If so, flank bookcases on the left and right of the console. I agree that the wall could use height.

2) If you don't need bookcases, embellish the console wall with art, lighting sconces, wall paper or an exciting paint color. Don't be shy. It's only the back wall and will be the main focus of the room.

Here are some inspiration pics.

a) Large art on a colorful wall.

b) Simple painted stripes.

c) Wall of shelving, wall to wall, ceiling to floor. Paint the wall a color and install the shelving so that the paint is the back of the bookshelves.

d) Embellish the console. Install a shelf (Ikea Lack Floating Shelf) 14" over the height of the console, wall to wall. Install another shelf closer to the ceiling. In the inspiration pic, it shows a large screen tv, instead, hang a piece of art, centered.

I would need a LOT more task lighting in the room, even with the lovely large window you have. I would want both an attractive floor lamp and a lamp to replace the living-room type lamp you have to something that is more inspiring to getting office tasks done.

I would also need a fair amount of open shelving, but maybe your kind of work doesn't need it.

Seeing pictures of your furnishings and others suggestions like the idea of a rather light creamy rug with the dark furniture.

Lastly, if your life now means doing a lot of work from home, consider creating an option for sneaking in a small standing desk in addition to your sit-down desk. This well really help ward off some of the muscle-skeletal problems get working from home.

Think about where you put your laptop when in a Zoom meeting and what you want for an uncluttered camera backdrop. You do not want the window behind you for meetings because it will cause your face to darken and be hard to see. If your desk faces the window with the credenza behind it on the left wall, you will have natural light on your work and on your face; put a handsome painting over the credenza for a backdrop. I like your old chair. Put it in the corner next to the window for a second place to do work.

Layout wise, I’d try the credenza/mirror on wall opposite window so back wall becomes more impactful with large art, a collage, or bookcases. Desk pulled back a bit towards back wall and chair on right as you enter.

Decor wise, I’d wait to paint until you have all the components chosen. Suggest a neutral rug and add pops of color and accessories that compliment your traditional furniture, but also feel modern

Could you post 2 more pictures of the walls not showing? I'm assuming the entry is French doors. And the other has a window. My thoughts are to position the desk so you see it as you come into the room. That gives you room to use the French doors easily. I'd keep the credenza where it's at but add your new art above it and flank it with 2 new bookcases to fill most of that wall. That gives you easy access to anything you need for your work by just turning around in your chair.

If the entry is a French door, you will want to maintain some aesthetic and colour consistency with the decor in the facing dining room. This keeps the house "flow" going. My favourite configuration for an office wall is two tall bookcases flanking a bureau. This gives you an extra flat surface for sorting papers, or a convenient spot for a small printer and some supplementary lighting. Plus you have a great spot for a beautiful painting and perhaps a vase of flowers. If the bookcases have closed doors on the bottom, you can remove the filing cabinet and file in magazine holders or portable file racks, or even just binders with page protectors. Most filed items are referred to pretty infrequently.

I am doing the same thing with recreating a new layout for my office. I am tending towards a lighter wall color (off white with grey or taupe in it) and using either a large colorful or a muted color of artwork that you can change out as per the seasons - even groupings of varied sizes of artwork.

For your furniture I would tend to go with a lighter color of rug and wall color - this allows you to pop in any color you feel like for artwork etc without worrying if those colors will go with rug and wall.

Are you going to have a monitor and computer on the desk?

My office is actually a windowless den with no door. I can see front entrance way on my left when sitting at my desk. I am still in progress but my desk will be a long slab about 20" - 24" deep by about 7 feet long up against a wall with rolling file cabinets etc under it. My computer will be on it but I am thinking about putting monitor on wall to save on desk space and I will have a keyboard /mouse drawer under desk. As you can see my office configuration is very diference than above but otherwise the same principle applies for color, rugs, bookcases etc.

Tall bookcases on either side of console. If desk is facing widow then option for your large reading chair to be in front of bookcase angled toward desk (view out window if you glance left). If there is space, low file cabinet could be on other side of window in entry corner. I have BM Abington Putty on 3 walls with BM Providence Olive on accent bookcase wall. I lightened the room by painting bookcases BM Shaker Beige - a color I pulled from my rug. I share colors only to inspire possibility of not painting all 4 walls yet if you are done with Abington Putty you are done with it. Space for large art over console. Lots of fun and inspiring ideas posted by others!

wheels is a good idea... was just looking at the file cabinet and cabinet and just a thought... it looks like the two are the same height, possibly push them together to extend the length, could help with function as the surface would be longer and aesthetically the console together would look longer than the desk and help a bit visually.

Yes definitely new accessories are in the future! I am really over the greenish wall color. The walls need to be pretty light with the lack of natural light coming in. Sand is a good call!
