Yes, it is amazing it has survived, given the abuse you've heaped on it. You need to google and read more about culture. There's lots of material out there..I shouldn't need to type it out for you.
And yes, the pot is probably about 2 sizes too small...especially if you don't want it to overturn when the leaves are in full growth.

thank you! I've been reading and watching videos and I am also surprised. I've seen people just throw them away after blooming. I've never had success but I always give it a try at reblooming because throwing them out is a waste. I'm going to go repot it right now.

They're very easy and I had a whole row of them when I was less than ten years old. Not hard at all to grow or reflower if you do it right vs everything wrong (from what you said).
Let the plant be your guide, it'll tell you what it wants if you listen.

If you let the leaves photosynthesize in full sun (or close to it), and dont' cut them off and stuff in a fridge, it probably will.

Why would you put it in the fridge??? They aren't tulips.

I suspect he was told it needed a dormant period and that being cool was part of that, and was given some generic bulb advice. I can sure see that happening, but also think it's great that he decided to do some research on his own and ask for more experienced and specific advice.
