My number one consideration on fix vs. replace is my budget at the time. If your budget allows replacement, I'd do replacement as 45 years is quite a good run for a garage door. Not sure how much more would be in them but you never know.

The blue is very pretty but not sure how it coordinates with the rest of the house. Is your front door blue? Where is the garage in relation to the house? The garage looks white and the house looks cream. Might be the photo. If you're looking for a comprehensive design, might be time to align the colors if indeed they are different. (oops, I'm spending your money, sorry).

There are a lot of great door styles and materials out there now. I think you first need to identify if you want a door with windows, no windows, wood look, real wood, paintable or natural wood look or natural real wood. How old are the openers if there are openers? Will you be replacing them too?

Thanks for the response. At the moment, we are in a position where we can replace the doors if we decide to go that route. We had someone give us an estimate for the repair and at the same time, he offered an estimate to replace. It was not as expensive as we had anticipated, which is what got us thinking about replacement. The current blue color on the garage doors matches the front door color. and the garage doors are on the side of the house. They do not face the road. The peaked building on the left of the house in the 2nd picture with the 2 windows with shutters is the side of the garage, which faces the road. And both house and garage are the same cream color, the lighting on the front of the garage was just in full sun when the picture was taken, which caused it to look whiter. All 3 garage bays have openers, which have all been replaced at various times. The only item that we think we would like to see in new doors would be windows, just to break up that solid mass of the 3 doors. As to materials, we're at a loss. Wood is all we've known, but we've been exploring lower maintenance products, hence the uncertainty.

We replaced ours with steel wood look doors. The unanticipated benefit was the lift mechanism came with app functionality so when we were two hours into a trip and had the sudden panic we didn’t shut the garage door we could check it remotely. (They were closed) :)

Years ago I replaced my wood doors with steel. I'm glad I did. I would either get natural wood looking ones or white to match the siding.

I really love the look of your wooden doors. If you can fix the one door, I would do that. They suit the look of your home.

are they automatic openers too? i know those wood doors really strain those because of the weight.

are the doors full wood or an MDF inner core?

I think 45 years is well past their useable time! I think if you upgraded and got new lights, it would change the look. I'd prob go black to match the shutters)

Yes they are automatic door openers as well, and you're right, because of the weight of the wood, (full wood, not MDF inner core), the automatic door openers have been replaced multiple times over the years. Thanks so much for suggestions and the pics to go along with your ideas. They are great and really help! We also agreed that we should update the lights if we replace the doors, give it a fresher look, right?
