kitchen countertop help!

Hello! My husband and I purchased this home and the kitchen had already been updated. I like the cabinet color and backsplash choice but would like to change out the countertops so they are not so brown. Any suggestions of what may look good? Thank you in advance!

How long have you lived in the space? IMO the backsplash is way too dark and the cabinets too yellow and the walkway in front of the fridge too narrow . Can you maybe post a pic of the space next to the kitchen so we can see a bit about your style.A cooktop infront of a windows is possibly the worst place possible even worse than an island. If you love it the way it is except gor a new counter then we need to see the colors of the adjacent spaces.

first thing I'd advise is lighting. what type of lights do you have? are they recessed or a florescent? if the latter, I'd do that first. IF they are recessed, change out your bulbs to a 4000K temp bulb.

Everything in the photo has a weird cast to it from the lighting. Improve your lighting and you'll improve all that sickly yellow/brown color.

Looks like when they redid things, they moved the sink from the window. OR, they put in that window behind the stove, purposely. either way, not a good move. But if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

If you are completely happy w/the layout and don't want to change anything except the countertops. (which look to be baltic brown, ) then take a door and go to a slab yard to walk around and see what you like.

i'd prob switch out those dark knobs to lighter pulls as well.

    What color are those cabs?

considering everything before you w a new home I think the counters are fine..nice bullnose edge. You will find many more serious issues w the kitchen and things to get you thinking about what you might change in the future, I'd enjoy the counters for now...in good shape...they blend in. the yellow w browns would not be my pick but ??? if you start thinking of a change you really have to deal w coordinating the floor w warm almond?? cabinets and where are you going to go with that??? Judging from the shades and valance in the next room this a warm themed set of rooms. I would leave well enough alone for the time being.

We suggest trying a different backsplash if you think your current kitchen is too dark. Also under cabinet lighting can help a ton too. Here are some of our designs to show you how you might be able to lighten your kitchen:

    Hi slweimer-

It is very difficult to discern the true color of your cabinets, floor and counters in your photo.

Is it possible to post a better photo taken in broad daylight with the window covering pulled all the way up but the lights off so we can see the real colors?

I am wondering if what went on here is that this kitchen had no hood vent over the range and the owners weren't happy with the smoke and odor, so someone came up with the idea of moving the range top to in front of the window so that the window could be opened while cooking.

Well, that really isn't the proper way to address the issue.

More important than a cosmetic counter fix is to install a proper hood vent.

    I would do that first.
