Getting ready for and celebrating fall...

Today we did a few things to celebrate the approach of fall. My teenager helped me make applesauce, which is a fall family tradition, and we had apple cider cheese fondue for dinner. I plan to switch out my wreaths and decorate some for fall this week. Our new home has teal as a through color so I ordered a few teal glass pumpkins that will arrive in a few weeks.

What is everyone else doing to celebrate fall?

    So cute, Jinx!

    Thank you, grapefruit! :)

I had some hot tea tonight. It's gone from nearly 90 to 60 pretty quickly. Had to look for my long sleeve quarter zip to workout. I've been in tank tops and capri leggings for what seems like forever.

    Great idea for a thread!

I just purchased cider yesterday. I sent my young adult daughters each one of these cute Staub pumpkins. Not really a tradition but hopefully starting one for them.

In a couple of weeks, I'll drag out the huge pumpkin that I purchased about ten years ago at Target and put it on the front porch.

    Jinx...

I love that place. It’s such a maze and you never know what you’ll find. The last time I went I got some vintage bookends. How busy was it?

I tried to take the kids to the Clearfork Farmers Market yesterday but it was way too crowded and too many people weren’t wearing masks. Luckily, I had gotten them sausage rolls at a local donut shop so they weren’t too upset.

tcufrog, it was pretty busy today. I’m seeing some fun new booths just getting set up, though. :)

September is all about apples!! TONS of applesauce, apple picking, freezing apples for later holiday baking...No leaves on the lawn Thursday...by Sunday the ground was covered. Fall has begun!!

It 47 degrees here and the house is cold, a perfect morning for cream of wheat and a fire in the fireplace.

Jinx, were people being careful? We are still being cautious although we aren’t totally staying home.

Arcy_gw, I wish I knew of an Apple picking place around here.

Jinx, that is so cute and definitely a wonderful welcome to fall! I'm eager to go back to MSAM one of these days. Maybe a socially distanced meet-up could be in the cards there for those of us in this area - ? Just a thought!

This past weekend was the first slight glimmer of hope that fall is on its way, as we had slightly cooler temps and lower humidity. Made for a nice time to be outdoors, although the mosquitos are still out in full force. I don't really decorate seasonally, but if I find a cute little pumpkin or two, I might have to buy them for our patio.

Dee, that Staub pumpkin is adorable! I love my red Staub Dutch oven that I ordered a few months back. I love it so much that I can't bring myself to put it away in the cabinet, so it sits on the counter near the stove even when not in use.

Fall is my favorite time of year, calling to mind many cozy memories.

tcufrog, yes, they require masks and distancing, and the checkout area has clear shower curtains strung up between customers and checkers. We’ve been twice this summer and felt safe. Everyone was being very respectful of distancing and wearing masks properly.

DH needed to go by the guitar store off Hulen afterwards, and wow, I’m impressed with how they’re doing it: only a certain number of people (wearing masks) allowed in at a time, you have to clean your hands using a foot pump sanitizer bottle right at the door, and you can’t play the instruments without them sanitizing things before and after. I heard them call out to some young guys that came in after us to go sanitize their hands. They’re watching customers like hawks! :)

Thank you, Ida! Oh, I’d love a meet-up one of these days! :)

The smoke has cleared out from my area of the west coast and I could finally leave my house after twelve days of being indoors, so I got out in the garden yesterday to start my annual fall ritual of moving plants to fine-tune my garden. Maybe one day I'll be happy with how the garden looks.

We went picking for Gravensteins and Bartlett pears in mid-August so I have several containers of applesauce in the freezer and a dozen apples left in the fridge. I've made a few crisps, baked apples, and an apple-pear galette already. I want to make apple fritters this week. I love roast pork and applesauce in the fall too.

I'm burning a Nest Pumpkin Chai candle - does that count?

Saw my first hints of fall in the trees this weekend as I was driving and there’s a couple of leaves on the ground. The brisk weather feels so good.

It got chilly fast here although we’ll have a slight warmup this week. Perfect, crispy fall weather. I put the fall wreath on my door. The store near me has loads of pumpkins so I’ll get mine soon. I always put little pumpkins on my fence posts. We have a bumper crop of acorns this year so I hope the squirrels will not feast on the pumpkins.

Feels good to get out the sweaters. I turned the heat on, too.

I'm looking forward to sweater weather. It does feel nice and cool since it's dropped down to the 70s and mid 80s.

    Signs of fall here...

    My glass pumpkin collection.

A pumpkin beer on the porch.

And yes, DH and I went apple picking. We had apple crisp for dinner that night.

Ahhh, what great Fall traditions! We’ve been so incredibly busy lately getting our former clinic’s building ready to sell, selling and donating all its furniture and equipment, and at the same time getting our new RV ready for our cross-country trip that I haven’t pulled out my own Fall decs - or Fall clothes- yet! This thread is inspiring me, though. Thank you and keep all the fun pics and ideas coming!
