Need help blending console with room

Purchased this handmade wooden console. Current living room style is contemporary, any tips on how to blend in the rustic console with the rest of the room? Pictures of new Console and current console attached.

Although it is rustic, it's also beachy, would you consider doing nautical theme? Also, do you plan to poly the the table or leave as is?

I’m open to any kind of theme. Wasn’t planning to poly the console, do you think it would look better?

Poly is just for protection and can change the sheen. I would not poly it.

Can you post more photos of your room. Hard to give advice without more photos.

Here are some more pictures of the room.

It just depends if you like the colors as is, poly will protect it and will change the colors to be more vibrant, depending on what wood it is though the exposed pieces could look yellowy if it's pine or maple.

IMO the console you have is better but with either one that TV needs to be lowered and I think with the new one the TV will be too high. I think that console is too heavy looking for the space and the furniture you have. What was the reason for the purchase ? I don’t mind mixing rustic with contemporary but the pieces need to work together scale wise.

I agree the new console is bulkier. We ordered a custom console based on designs we liked but it came out bulkier than expected. We are having trouble selling it, figured there could be a way to incorporate it somehow.

Depends on your budget, but an inexpensive casual rug that works with your drapes (your rug doesn’t seem to compliment), a rustic coffee table, neutral cushions and accessories purchased down the road will all have a big impact. Console has to be complimented for room to work well. If you like it enough to keep, the room could easily be made to feel warmer with added personality.

We've all done this--buying and committing to a piece we're not crazy about. Leave it as is. Place the TV on it, not above it. Then divert the eye with a gallery wall of great art pieces or a single art piece.

Another suggestion to cut down on having two similarly sized big rectangular pieces--and let your nice rug show through--is to replace your uphoilstered coffee table with a round glass one. Your room needs some pattern and color. Your rug should be more visible. Add art for more interest.

Adding a whole bunch of stuff to make it work will not help I happen to love your space and color choices this was just a bad one, anybody who is doing farmhouse would love that piece see if you can sell it .

I like the new piece of furniture and don't see anything currently in the room that couldn't work with it. Have you already tried it in its new spot and didn't like it? And are there any other options for furniture arrangement if you think the new piece makes the room feel crowded?

Yeah we tried it in the new spot and didn’t like it. Not sure what other furniture arrangements we can do.

I agree with adding more natural elements. Your whole room doesn't need to be rustic but adding natural textures and pieces will help tie it in together. I wouod change the drapes to something lighter and airy looking either a white, cream or light gray. Swap out the lights behind the chairs to a rattan or rustic, new throw pillows to bring in the blues and some with texture, definitely change the coffee table. Why didn't you like the size in the space? Did it look weird or did it make viewing TV uncomfortable? You could always use it as a buffet or sideboard if you have a large enough dining room and still want to keep it.

    Thanks for your help everyone!

Poly it for protection and use on your patio or deck as a bar.

    Go Scandinavian!

Put the t v on the console.

Set it up beautifully with the TV on it, lamp, art, etc. Then photograph it inside and out with well-lit photo. Try to resell it using the search words: "Farmhouse Rustic Handmade Console Sideboard." Then just get a simple, very wide console table that isn't too deep since the placement seems to be on a walkway.
