If you had to choose...

If you had to choose, would you rather keep the coffee table (old cart) or lose it and add a second cream colored swivel chair? I am wanting to add either a couple side tables by the couch, or one between 2 cream chairs maybe, or a floor lamp...basically some way to add in another light source like a lamp since I enjoy a “layered lighting” look as well. So, maybe this is a multi-tiered question. Ha! Open to some suggestions on the extra chair & losing the coffee table, and accent tables plus lamps.

What a gorgeous space. I like the coffee table and I would not add a matching armchair. The asymmetrical layout is more interesting but you could add an occasional table for you/your gusts to put a glass down and it could also serve to hold a lamp but is there a convenient outlet? A floor lamp there would be great too along with the small table but again there is the cord issue. Another thought, could the barn beam come done off the mantle? I think it is too high and too short, minimal might be better there.

I forgot to mention that I have 2 floor plugs hidden. One is under the couch and the other one is under one of the blue chairs. I could easily run a cord under the perimeter of the rug to another spot in the living room so that the cord could stay hidden & not be a trip hazard.

Regarding the barn beam mantel, the height was due to code from the gas fireplace safety guidelines. It can slide off the support metal pieces that are attached to the studs behind it but it would leave a gap in the wood. The only way to fix those gaps would be to replace the entire bottom row of wood or add a strip of metal to hide the holes possibly. I have considered making it smaller. At first, I had a couple things on the mantel but it felt busy so I just took it all off of the mantel completely until I could figure it out. Not sure if I'll ever put anything there unless I come across something that feels right.

Also, the missing black trim at the bottom of the gas fireplace will be fixed...not sure if anyone will catch that but figured I should mention it. There was a goof up on the concrete surround on the bottom portion and they had to come up with another piece of trim to match up. Hopefully that will be fixed soon! The joys of first moving in & finishing up the small stuff!

Love your old junk! And that cart is too great to part with. I would ditch the ottoman or move it and get another swivel chair. Is that lamp by the Hopi whirlwind basket operative?
Perhaps add a brass "tent lamp" at the end of the sofa in case someone wants to cur;l up with a book. The ottoman could have a tray and be used between the 2 chairs to set a drink on.

I love your artwork above the mantel against that barnwood-it's absolutely beautiful! I would bring a cowhide in to layer with your rug. The coffee table is great! But I do think that your oatmeal colored chair isn't working with the off white color of your walls at all. I'd get another pair of chairs exactly like your blue pair and mirror them on the other side. And bring in more green plants.

I think adding the cahir is a good idea as long as it matches As for the coffee table but if adding light is the aim then first choose a ceiling light that light the space not the ceiling then add a table between each pair of chairs with a lamp then see if there is even room for a coffee table or keep the coffee table , which I love in the space and do a shallow long sofa table with 2 lamps .
