Wow, still blooming and surprise flowere

VT Autumn Fire has been blooming since July 5th. It is still bud building and looks like it may go til frost. Maybe 50 buds per scape? Lost track after 40.

This is growing down in the creek area. I used a phone app called Seek to identify it.

It is called Great Blue Lobelia. I'm going to try to collect some seeds. Hopefully it will come back in the place where it is as well. It is so much prettier in person. The cool design and color makes it look almost blurred in the photos.

I also have some other wild flowers growing around the fence by the creek. White [Frostweed], yellow [yellow crownbeard], orange [common jewelweed], plus blue, purple and pink morning glories.

That is a long blooming lily! And the lobelia is cool. I love wildflowers-I have wild ageratum blooming in a corner of my yard that I protect from the mower man (aka as husband). He is notorious when it comes to mowing “weeds”!

What an amazing run for VT Autumn Fires! Very impressive! The blue lobelia is lovely. Will it normally be a fall bloomer?

Yes, Lobelia is a fall bloomer. I have no idea where it came from but it is welcome!

I love lobelia. I used to grow it. I don't remember if it is a short lived perennial or a biennial, but it regularly reseeded til I guess mulch prevented it.

Lobelia siphilitica is indeed a lovely flower, but just make sure you want it before you plant it! I planted some in a very wet garden, and it is definitely thriving lol! IME it spreads vigorously. I wouldn't call it invasive and maybe not even aggressive, but I am always ripping spots of it out - either early in spring when I see the basal growth, or for those plants I miss, after it blooms - can't bear to rip it out while it's actually in beautiful bloom lol.

If it is planted somewhere drier and, perhaps as Nancy mentioned, an area with heavy mulch, it may not be as vigorous. YMMV. Good luck and enjoy!

You have had great luck with the VT's. Lobelia is pretty and I'm sure seeing it in person is always much better but you pic is very accurate.
