I might paint dark tan parts your wall color, and the lighter off-white(?) parts the white of your trim, so it blends in better.

Definitely paint the wood cabinet pieces and the mantel the same color as your white trim. Take off the medallion and wooden piece under the middle of the mantel. Take down the tv - add art above the fireplace instead.

I agree with Sammie about removing the wood carving and TV, but I would paint it ALL the same color as your wood trim. I would also hide that fireplace screen somewhere in the garage.

Hide the fireplace tools that are on the mantel too. Those really arent art!😁 what’s the age of your house? Does the fireplace work & are these original colors or if not do you know what they were?

I would leave it. I like the wood carving, but I would take down the TV (replace with art) and do something about the unbalanced single sconce. It looks like there were two at some point ... there should be two or zero, one looks like a potential issue.

Give the inside a good cleaning. Remove the TV, then move on to the rest of your house.

I agree with above. In addition to taking off the wooden price under the mantel. Maybe paint the tile around the fireplace with a light color. Maybe try a low reflection pearlized paint. It could look

beautiful. What about the hearth? I would try to put new tile in the hearth like marble or travertine. Or you can tile over it if it looks like too much work for inset tile. The final look could be beautiful!

I wouldn’t remove anything, those look like period details the next person might like. Paint all the wood elements the trim color, maybe paint the hearth black if the red is paint (if it’s natural tile leave it alone)

Now I see all the detail in top border of tile in fireplace. The small red flowers (?) plays off the red hearth. Nice!

That looks better, Patrick. It's more unified. (I'm glad the television found another home.)

Wow, that looks soooo much better, good for you!

Its actually a really cool piece - I would keep all the details intact but get the same paint for the whole thing. I love the picture above with the bolder color!

Also, get the second wall sconce or remove the left one.

Post pics when done!
