Caesarstone worktop does not match sample

Hi everyone, we recently installed caesarstone Statuario Nuvo worktops at significant expense (£8000). We went for the Nuvo because it was creamier than all the other whites we looked at, both with Caesarstone and their competitors. It was their most expensive range but the colour was absolutely right so we placed the order for a large island and various smaller worktops. When installed, it was immediately obvious the worktop was significantly paler than we’d expected. We found the sample we’d been sent and it is approx 3shades paler and greyer. In fact, the installed worktop is much closer in colour to the statuario maximus.

we Immediately contacted Caesarstone, showing them the photos and asking a rep to come out to see for themselves. They have refused, writing back in a tone that can only be described as patronizing and rude, and saying it says on the sample ‘actual product may vary’. Of course, we expect that in terms of patterning, but if the colour is going to be substantially different, why bother with samples at all?

we are strongly considering legal advice and believe we are covered by the Consumer Act 2015, under not ‘as described’, but I’d appreciate feedback if anyone has had or heard of a similar problem. We had thought that with Caesarstone supposedly being a market leader that their customer service and product consistency would be a lot better than this.

in the photo below, the statuario Nuvo is the sample on the right. Statuario Maximus is on the left. The worktop is Satuario Nuvo, but clearly corresponds more closely in colour to the Maximus. Would you agree?

many thanks

karen

To me it looks as if they installed the Statuario Maximus. Even the veining looks like this.

I had a similar problem with granite. I won’t go into all the details, but once I convinced them to come out and look at my granite, the rep clearly could see the two granites didn’t match. I picked out a granite slab for my bathroom and they used two different slabs (same blue pearl), but both looked so different. They finally came out, at first he couldn’t see the difference when he saw it. It was so obvious, but when I pointed it out the difference then he could see the separate countertops didn’t match. Once he saw the difference they were happy 😊 to fix the problem. Keep trying and tell them you aren’t satisfied until someone comes out and sees it.

Thanks everyone for comments so far. We have seen photos of the slab before it was cut, with stickers on confirming it was Stat Nuvo. Someone from Caesarstone eventually came out to view but it was lip service and she was reporting straight back to her boss who had written the initial dismissive reply, in spite of the clear evidence of the photos supplied, showing colour difference.

The sample was ordered May 2020 and the worktop ordered August 2020.m about as fast as anyone could progress, especially during the middle of lockdown. if the sample had discoloured, that is on caesarstone. It is their responsibility to make sure their samples are accurate to their product.

The rep came out with a sample of her own and it sat, colourwise, between our sample and worktop, proving in effect that they are at least two shades out, and we would say three.

caesarstone have made no offers whatsoever to remedy the situation, even though the rep admitted she could see the colour difference. To them, the colour difference is acceptable but where is the line between acceptable and unacceptable? We can prove a two shade difference so is it at three, four, five shades out??

They have now written a deadlock letter, effectively saying they won’t engage in further discussion. They have behaved with contempt throughout, without any meaningful engagement whatsoever. Their decision is made, irrespective of evidence refuting their claims.

We are taking it further But The Furniture and Home Improvements Ombudsman is no use as Caesarstone are not members, and the Worktop Fabricators Federation doesn’t offer a disputes resolution service between its members and customers. If anyone can advise where else we should try, we would be grateful to hear it. This company charges a premium price for an unreliable product and offers no customer service whatsoever.

Wow. I'm sorry this happened. Looks like you are in the UK. We have something here called the Better Business Bureau and they often help with things like this because the company wants to not have a bad rating with the BBB. Don't know what you may have over there...

    I would actually not agree.

I have Nuvo in my kitchen and it looks like your countertop/island. Your counters do not appear to have been mixed up with Maximus as the veining is much thicker and a cooler undertone on Maximus. I too selected Nuvo for the creamier undertones that you can’t find in other quartz products. I do agree your sample looks A LOT creamier and I can see why you selected it based on the color of your cabinets. Unfortunately if you approved the slab and didn’t realize that it wasn’t as creamy as your sample you probably will not get very far with Caesarstone.

It is 2024 and I am having the same problem. I extended my work space two years later. I ordered statuario Nuvo and I am sure the new piece is Calacatta Nuvo. The installer insists it is Satuario Nuvo. It isn’t.

They are similar but Statuario veins are darker and thinner.

It is a man made poured product. Very well could be different grain pattern and size. Different batches can and will look different. Two years later your lucky it is as close as it is.

I am a fabricator. This is a good example of why you need to pick the actual slabs to be used on your job. The quartz manufacturers don't support this approach because it would complicate distribution and add cost.
