F.W. Schumacher

Having now ordered from F.W. Schumacher several times between 2018 & 2020 and had occasion to interact with customer service twice (once to address an issue and another to inquire about a special interest) I was surprised that nobody has rated the company on GardenWeb because they're really good.

Almost always, seeds are properly packaged and germinate well. Magnolia kobus, for example, comes well shielded from the light. [A different "reputable" company sent this seed with absolutely no protection.] Magnolia, Quercus, Prunus, and Rosa (among others) have all germinated at rates on par with the best rival sellers.

Once, I got bad seeds. F.W. Schumacher tested and confirmed it. They refunded my money and removed the seeds from their stock.

Their customer service is frank, honest, and responds in a timely manner with relevant information. [Same other "reputable" seller will tell you how long he's been in business and assure you that he knows what he's doing.]

My only issues with F.W. Schumacher are that their inventory must move very quickly (they are frequently out of at least some of the seeds on my list) and they only sell large quantities of some of the smaller seeds like Amelanchier canadensis (which I would have bought from them this year if I could have gotten a smaller quantity.) Be these as they may, F.W. Schumacher has definitely moved into first place on my list.
