You do have some nice color going! I like that form on White Unto Harvest and the seedling. I am not sure I have seen double balloon flowers. Do they reseed or self seed for you? Midsummer A Woman’s Work may be appropriately named. I don’t look so good working in midsummer either!! :)

White Unto Harvest is living up to its name! I like how white it looks. Isn't that one you got on our Kingsport trip? Your double balloon flowers look great! I have some that I grew from seed years ago that are much taller than yours and they finished blooming back in late July. The polychrome seedling is pretty.

I like your seedling for the perfect form and soft coloring. What a treat for you and others (who don't live up here!) to get so much rebloom so late in the year. Mine just get the one shot at flowering and the show is over.

Kate, the balloon flowers do reseed some, if these have time to produce viable seeds, i can save some for you if you like. I think that seedling was a bigger flower when it first bloomed, i quite like it especially since it reblooms.

Debra, yes, White Unto Harvest came from our trip. It has not multiplied, but it has had nice branching and bloom for 1st year. Love the flowers, they have looked nice even on cool days. As for the balloon flowers, they are short because I cut them back when they finish blooming and always rebloom. Actually, if I remember, I cut them back by half before they start budding so they don't flop.

Celeste, I don't often get as much rebloom. Funny, 2 or 3 plants that always rebloom did not this year. Richard Norris, Ed Brown and a double I can't think of name right now always rebloom, but not this year. I don't tend to water unless it gets really dry. Rather surprised I got as much rebloom because it has been rather dry, no drought, but we have missed heavier rains.

I've not seen the red spider lilies before. Very pretty. I like balloon flowers too. Mums are nice, but are related to ragweed as are asters, so I avoid them as they can be almost as bad for allergies.

Do you grow the spider lilies in the ground? Bob told me they are tender here, but I would love to have some. We just grow the relative Lycoris squagmigera, which is only pink.

Yes, I do grow them in ground and they do fine here. If you have a spot close to your house, a protected area, they might do ok there. I grow calla lilies in ground here and I think they are zone 8 plants, although I so lose some of the less protected ones occasionally, I think more due to wet winters than cold though. They don't multiply as fast here as the squamagera. If you want to try, I can send you a few.

Thanks for the offer but I'll pass for now. I never liked the squamigera simply because it bloomed late summer and it reminded me that school was about to start. I was a teacher for 38 years. I liked my job, but the work load in the winter was brutal. After I retired, I planted a few. Maybe someday I will try the red ones.
