Extreme Carpenter be damage

I have let this go on way too long and did not realize it was so extensive. Fortunately it’s only in some wooden post I really don’t use anymore. But it’s unsightly and I need to get your input on what to do. This is the worst hole and is about 5 inches long.

You sure it's just carpenter bee damage? Looks like you got wood rot and woodpecker damage going on there. Something has done more damage there than what an average carpenter bee does.

If you don't use the post anymore, then get rid of it.

Woodpecker gets my vote - that's WAY more damage than carpenter bees do.

That makes sense. I will take more pictures. I do have carpenter bee holes in other places but they are all small round shaped holes. Thanks for responding. The posts (there are 6 of them) are concreted into the ground. I'm not sure I can remove them. Any other suggestions for stopping the woodpecker?

We have lots of species of woodpeckers and I've never seem them do this type of thing. It almost looks to me like its been chewed on/knawed at. @beesneeds: How high up the post is this?
