Beautiful. I can’t keep an orchid alive to save my life, though I’m good with everything else. My lemon tree is laden with fruit too.

How pretty. Where do you live that you can grow orchids and lemons? I would love to be where I could grow them.....instead, in the midwest, we are preparing for winter and snow.

@Allison0704 Allison your orchids are just lovely. I had a Vanda at one time. It’s time to try one again. After our front yard landscapers are done I plan on putting a few more orchids in the trees since they seem to thrive here without much interference from me. I do bring them inside for temps below freezing or a pending hurricane.

@Bluebell66 I understand winters in the Midwest. You should be able to grow orchids indoors. They are really quite hardy. Love the long bloom period. I live on the northeast Florida Coast. These orchids face north/northeast and are protected from our brutal summer sun by the crape myrtles that are fully leafed at that time. Believe it or not fall is here and leaves are dropping daily.

We've been hit hard here by citrus greening and I lost almost all my trees and the new ones I planted succumbed as well.

I have a Ponkan mandarin that's barely hanging on and a Key/Mexican lime I started from seed that's getting big & bushy, but so far has had only a few fruits.

@carolb_w_fl_coastal_9/10 It’s so sad how the citrus greening has completely changed the face of Florida. Well that and constant construction. But I do remember back in the 70s and 80s all the beautiful groves. All along Highway 60 from Clearwater to Vero Beach, and the Indian River groves. I lived in a neighborhood where the roads were all named after citrus and there were so many grapefruit, orange, lime, lemon, satsuma, trees. I’m grateful I saw it then because it’s no more.

Tannaton and Allison, love ❤️ your orchids. And a little bit envious, because I can’t keep orchids alive. Here is my Meyer lemon tree, laden with fruit. I’m thinking of making limoncello with most of them and pickling a few in brine (first time to try).

My Mother can grow orchids with out any difficulty. I try not to even look at them when I'm at her home so they don't curl up an die.

@pudgeder I wonder why you have issues growing orchids. They need a warm spot preferably with humidity. Indirect light and water now and then. I like to soak the whole pot in a deep sink for a couple of hours. Bathrooms are generally ideal places for an orchid if you have a window or skylight. They do not use soil, just an orchid mix. They will not grow well at all in a container of soil. Wooden baskets with orchid mix are great since their roots can get to air. With that said I don’t have any indoor plants but may try an orchid inside just to see what issues arise.

Allison you were wonderering why your Vandas haven't bloomed for you. Vandas like very bright light, even a little dappled morning sun. In the orchidist world it is a well known adage that if sn orchid doesn’t bloom you should try giving it a light more light. My 20+ vandas get that kind of light and bloom several times a year…except for the species which only bloom once a year of course. Vandas are also heavy feeders. I give mine orchid fertilizer year round at half the recommended dosage Spring and summer and at quarter dosage in the winter..

When you say indirect sun, do you mean that it cannot go in front of a window where the sun shines in from the East for a good 3 hours in the morning. Would I have to move it completely back so no shine on it. Thanks

@bea (zone 9a -Jax area) The photo I posted was a rebloom. The other two are new and will next year, if not sooner. I do the same with fertilizer and watering. They are hanging close to the windows, since the sunroom has darkened windows. Thanks.
