Free castor bean seeds
I was given 2 castor bean seeds now knowing the type in April. I planted them in May and both sprouted but only one made it. it started growing so slow and then all of a sudden one day it took off. I also cut off the flowers to encourage more growth But left a few on to produce seeds. It grew around 6-7 feet tall and a few feet wide with a deep colored stem and green leaves. i want to try a new variety of castor beans next year and I’d rather share these reds then throw them away Or left it reseed. Some people and states consider these invasive as they do reseed easily if not maintained. these plants are pretty poisonous if inhaled or ingested as they do contain ricin. its best to keeo away from kids and animal. I planted it in my backyard and we have two dogs who never seemed to get near it. Here is the plant late last month.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoI wished the ones I grew would have reseeded but they did not. Maybe if I had more than one or two plants at a time, the seeds would be more plentiful. It is getting harder to find seeds to buy. The last successful one I had was in 2018 yet I see them in some yards on my trips here and there that get a lot larger and more flowers.
PS - I lost one of my seeds in the living room years ago and found it later on. My dog found it, chewed it a little and spit it out. Guess it tastes as bad as castor oil that we had as kids. That dog lived to 14 years old too. He had a bad reaction to something in the backyard a few years ago and was taken to the vet's office. We figure it was mushrooms growing on the property that he got into. Castor beans - spit it out, but poisonous mushrooms - yummy?

5 years agomine were smaller than most that I've seen in pictures..I don't have any full sun..my banana is undersized too..but I love my scrawny plants Lol..I'd like a few castor bean seeds if you have any..

thanks Andrew!..the seeds arrived this morning in perfect condition..thanks for your generosity..I have enough to plant in several locations..my first ones came from a woman offering seeds at the library..I got them late so that could also be why my plant wasn't that large..I'm better prepared with yours..I can plant as soon as it's safe from frost in mid May..I can't wait!!..thank you so much..🙂Andrew Darland thanked nicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
