I actually bought one from Wayfair. I had to adjust my expectations after reading about how they all rust if left outside. I also bought a cover, some concrete pier bases and wall stone and took some river rock to build a base. The idea was to keep the light weight, steel but not very durable fire pit and create a temporary based that would help to extend the life of the unit. It was relatively inexpensive so I might buy another one to keep in the garage for the future but the base we built will work with any fire pit with legs. I have a small backyard which has a pool and concrete deck pavers (no grass) so I didn't want the pit for use in the summer. I just wanted something for the winter that wasn't too expensive and could be moved easily. I am sharing our project because it was cheap, easy, flexible and pretty good looking if you ask me. It took 15 minutes to set up (not including building the fire pit from box to placement). Here are the things I used.

Traditions Steel Wood Burning Fire Pit

By Ebern Designs

I chose a fire pit that had legs that kept it high off of the ground ($121 CDN). This one is over 3' in diameter and over 12" high bowl. Lots of room for wood. I also need the spark screen because of where we put the pit. It also has a grill so you can cook on it but I haven't tried that yet. The whole thing is sitting on concrete patio stones of our deck so I suppose you could get some pavers and put it down on the grass but you would have to get a more experienced person to comment on that. I got all of the concrete blocks from Lowes for about 120 CDN.

I also had potato sized stones around our yard that I used to fill in the base. Nothing is glued down and it can be taken apart at the end of the season and kept beside the house until the next winter. So... this is what we did.

It's the perfect height when seated and the wall acts as a foot rest. We have since added four more chairs, a wooden privacy screen and red seat and back cushions (buffalo plaid). My husband thought the wall should be a bit higher so he added another row yesterday. We're just waiting for it to stop raining and then we will be toasting marshmallows.

It was super easy, no surprises and we are going to enjoy it, every chance we get. Happy to share the finished product when the sun comes back out.
