There are lots of ways to retrofit those lights but the first thing you have to do is get up there, examine the existing lights by pulling off the trim, measure the size(s) of the holes cut in the ceiling, and determine the slope(s) of the ceilings. Are the existing lights mounted in housings like this (example) that accept screw-in bulbs?

those eyeball trims are doing a job, you can simply replace those for a freshin' up.
