Maryl - It's very tall, and I suspect you would have the same problems with it in a pot that you have with Miss Goldie Gold Digger. It's a red orange. I'm surprised to see it's won the Stout. I like the name better than I like the acutual flower. It does have wonderful branching and a great plant habit

It appears now that the time has past for White Eyes Pink Dragon, which narrowly lost to Rose F. Kennedy a few years ago. I don't know who the runners-up were this time around.

Itsy Bitsy Spider was second and Papa Goose was third.

And what is your opinion of Papa Goose?

The garden judges who vote on the Stout now must be dominated by UF/Spider lovers. Narrow flowers have won the Stout for several years now.

Mantis - It's a shame White Eyes Pink Dragon didn't win the Stout. I certainly prefer it to this year's winner. I grow Papa Goose in a pot, and it only blooms for me every other year.

I agree, White Eyes Pink Dragon is much prettier. I don't even like it all that much..

I appreciate the feedback. While hybridizers invest a lot of cost and energy in producing cultivars, we who grow these plants are always searching for what plant is appropriate for our area and needs. We too invest cost and time and energy. Some who hybridize may be looking primarily for a hybridizing plant, while others want only a garden plant that performs. Different tastes may also produce different feedback, but It is a disservice not to share experiences. One is not being "nice" by withholding feedback.

I suspect that Mean Green and Isabelle Rose have a good chance at future Stouts.

Papa Goose is new to our garden. It was planted in 2019 and bloomed for the first time this year. It rebloomed for us also. It looks like a nice variety but it's not my favorite color. Once it gets well established we can judge the plant habit.
