Alana, I think Kim Rupert used to grow it. I don't know if it made the trip to his new place or not, but he could tell you about it, in any case. I swear, Kim remembers everything about every rose he's ever grown, which is a LOT, lol.

Thanks, John! LOL! I originally obtained Pink Gate from Alice and Anthony Hinton at The Rose Ranch, YEARS ago when they were in Salinas, before relocating to La Grange, CA. They had it growing over the front gate to the garden around their farm house in the lettuce fields. It's totally thornless; flowers ALL the time; makes a bushy climber or a bushy free-standing plant; has a tremendous scent, which should remind you of Cecile Brunner. It's Cecile Brunner color with her iron-clad constitution. The old Vintage catalogs used to state it was believed to be a Cecile Brunner seedling called "Kentfield". Think of it as a bushier, semi double version of Cecile Brunner and enjoy the dickens out of it. In my Encino garden, the last place I grew it, the foliage turned quite red in winter. I used it a bit in breeding and probably should try using it again. It's a MARVELOUS landscape plant! Smells good, flowers ALL the time, has NO prickles and almost never has an diseases...what's not to like?

That depends upon what limits it. I don't know how old their plant was, but it filled in around the gate and the arch over it and was nicely bushy and filled in. Mine was always limited by either rabbits gnawing it, pruning for cuttings or being trapped in a large pot. I spread it around everywhere I could find receptive growers and nurseries. I maintained it for breeding use but it's like most polys in that in a beneficial climate, it will build into a righteous sized plant easily as long as killing frosts, animal or Human attacks don't set it back. You should be able to encourage it to fill in where and how you want simply by pinching back or gently pruning.
