Layout help (Remodel)

We have been in our house for a year and a half and are ready to start getting estimates for remodeling our kitchen. The layout is really not working for us and I have no idea where to start. I think we will end up having to replace the cabinets and get rid of the island. The island is completely in the way and the corner sink is very hard to use. We will have to replace the flooring because there is no tile under the cabinets. The dishwasher and wall oven are less than a year old and the fridge is ok but not great. There is plumbing next to the coffee pot from a prep sink that we removed. We also do not have a working exhaust system. We attempted to update the kitchen when we bought the house, but eventually decided to just wait and start over.

We have 2 adults and 3 children (3-13) and cook daily. We entertain and feed groups of 12 regularly (6 kids).

I think you'll get the best responses if you post a drawing that shows what your dimensions are of the wall lengths, etc. I can see the measurements on what you have above, but overall measurements will help. Are you able to move plumbing, etc? Wall lengths along with what can move and what can't are likely a good starting point.

Hire a Kitchen Designer, not a cabinet seller. Have a realistic budget, and a realistic assessment of what you can DIY.

    Hopefully this helps:

I am not sure what can move. It depends on cost. The corner sink has to change, but maybe not far enough to move plumbing? I can’t keep the island. It is in the way of everything you have to do in the kitchen. It’s impossible to fit two people In there. I’d love to have a gas cooktop or range (We have a gas fireplace but no gas in the kitchen) but again it depends on cost. We are on a slab.

Your picture appears to have cropped your drawing. Try again?

I can try taking it from farther away. It shows full size for me once I click it.

If you can move the sink plumbing a couple of feet into the peninsula, then move the cooktop to the wall with the oven, I think you'd have a good layout. Since you already have 240v there for the ovens, you might consider induction instead of gas.

Make the peninsula one level, increase the overhang to 15" and use a 33" cabinet to open under the overhang, or use a 27" cabinet, and leave a slot for cutting boards beside the sink. Or, decrease the aisle between the peninsula and perimeter cabs by a few inches, and use a super susan in the corner, with the trash pull-out between it and the cooktop.

Nothing on the fridge wall needs to change location, but I'd store dishes across the aisle from the DW, so that helpers can unload it, or gather dishes to set the table, without entering the primary prep space. Use as many drawer bases as the budget will allow.

Note--if the DW is on the end of the peninsula, it will need a return panel to support the counter top, or it will need it's own cabinet.
