I agree, just paint the door.....otherwise it is too heavy!

If you paint the trim, I think the problem will be "where do you stop?". Window trim, corner trim, etc. Black door will stand out and draw you into the house. Do think you need to go semi-gloss though.

The door is hidden from the drive way, i like the idea of using a colorful planter under the mailbox, the area is shaded and i don't know if flowers will survive but i will give it a try. We already bought the paint, the paint guy at the store suggested semigloss. The current paint is satin and i find that it doesn't clean, i thought semigloss might be better, i hope i didn't make a mistake.

I would say just paint the door and leave the trim around it white. Live with it, post more pictures and ask friends and neighbors. Then if you choose, you can paint the trim to match the door. Black is very difficult to cover up, so doing it in stages could work. By the way - I have a black door with white trim and get loads of compliments on it. Good luck!

I would paint both doors black by looking at your photo's and I should mention I have a similar set up and both of mine are black ;)

We agree, paint the door first and see if you like it; you can paint the rest later. Here is an example of how nice the color difference in frame and sidelite to the door can be. Have fun!
