Moldy Shower Door

Help! Recently moved into an older house and there’s a very moldy, gross framed glass door on the shower/tub. Due to the slanted ceiling we can’t just take them off and put in a curtain. I was able to clean the glass panels really well but there’s no hope for the seals.

My question is, how difficult will it be to remove the doors from the wall channels, remove the metal frame and replace the rubber seals? It seems simple enough but I don’t want it to take forever if I can help it, of course.

I googled Angled wall shower curtain....these ideas came up. You'd have to think creatively. I, personally, would be happy with most anything that would keep me from having to keep those doors clean.

I don't know if you actually need a curtain the full width of the tub, as the spray might not reach all the way.

Can you post a pic of the wall/ceiling situation that you think prevents a curtain? That door looks hopeless and when you can afford it, I'd just replace the whole thing. But there may be a solution to removing it and hanging a curtain over the mess that you haven't thought of. If we can see it, maybe someone has an idea for you.

Complete disassembly will be the only hope for that to be cleaned. Then you will still need to source the gaskets and hope that the metal is not corroded and able to be reassembled. An awful lot of work.

A tooth brush and another when you wear out the first one, lots of barkeepers friend. I moved into a house with a similar situation....eventually completely re did the bath, but I managed to clean it up. However because of the way it is, water sits there and it will get gross again unless you stay on top of it. I also suggest a spray containing clorox weekly.

Any solutions or ideas would be amazing! It’s really grossing me out! I wouldn’t mind spending money to replace it but I see us renovating the entire bathroom at some point so I don’t want to spend a ton of money on anything custom if we don’t end up keeping the tub for longer than a few years. Removing and going with a curtain is one thing but the tub top will be discolored from the frame and there will be holes on the tub top as well which will all be visible without the door and frame.

Design your future bathroom now and go ahead and build the bathing area accordingly. Later finish remodeling the bathroom. Money well spent.

Search for 'shower glazing vinyl'. The rubber can be replaced.

Keep mold at bay with regular use of a quaternary disinfectant cleaner.

Thank you all!! I have cleaned the shower really well so this is the only remaining pain point. I think in the spring I’m going to try and remove it all see if I can get new gaskets easily in there. If not I’m going with the shower curtain and will figure out how to plug the holes. Temporary solution until we do something different in the future thank you all!
