Historic Front Door Rehab

The front door to my 1895 Queen Anne in Great Falls, MT, was a bit lackluster after years of the "just slap another coat of paint on" maintenance. In fact, someone had actually put tape over the skeleton key holes and continued to paint over them for years and years! The brass plate cleaned up nicely.

Lots of citri-strip, heat gun, and sanding action left me with something really great to work with. Multiple coats of varathane for the exposed wood and metallic gold and gloss black for the detail work around the window completely transformed the entrance to my home.

The lower detail piece didn't come out as clean as I would have liked but not terrible for the age and abuse over the years. I had a local sign company make the black/gold decal for the window to coordinate with the painted details. The design under the house number matches the gingerbread detail at the peak of my roof.

If you are interested in seeing other Before/After threads of my house - you can check out my other posts by searching "Kitchen Remodel with Vintage Flair" & "1895 Dining Room Before/After". I'll be putting up other portions of the house over the next few weeks!
