From the photo, I would guess that you probably need a better furniture arrangement before you move on to art. If we could see all 4 walls of the room and your furnishings, we'd make better and more relevant suggestions.

You've done pretty well considering how small the space is. I would have left the loveseat out. They are always the "fly in the ointment" when it comes to arranging. Its totally blocking up your space. Will it fit in the master bedroom? Your rug is too small though. Otherwise, stationary drapery panels and perhaps a linear sculpture above the sofa should finish it up.

I think you need something sculptural/3-D over the couch. Nothing with right angles to conflict with the line of the sofa and the angle of the stairs. Of course, it would have to mean something to YOU; this is from my own collection but you get the idea.

But something horizontal could add interest to the blank wall.

Put the sofa where the love seat is now, remove the love seat and put the pair of chairs against the molding angled wall. Bring a color into the room with a larger rug and pillows and window bench seat cushion.

Hmmmm, I wonder if our living rooms are (distant, perhaps?) cousins? My set up is kind of similar to yours...If you leave the sofa where it is now, I'd absolutely-positively-definitely leave the wall as is, with nothing above the sofa.

You've been given a lot of good suggestions already, so I'd just see what works for you and your space. As for me, I played a lot with furniture placement and this is what stuck. I didn't like my sofa facing the fireplace at all and I didn't like my sofa on the opposite wall, so it went to its present place. These are old photos, and I have a few new things here and there, brought in a new African statue (not pictured), etc, etc., but it might give you an idea what I'm talking about.
