How big a rug are you talking about? A 5 x 7 in front of the couch, a runner by the fireplace, or a 14 x 20 room-size rug? I don’t know anyone who has enough wealth (and storage space) to have room-size rugs to match the seasons.

I change out the hearth rug, which is small, and add a couple small Dollar store mats in the front hall that will accommodate snowy shoes, but not other than that. Oh, and if I remember I put down a small oriental in the front hall, for atmosphere.

I have wall to wall so no changing out the rug, but I do put out an Alpaca fur rug in front of the fireplace when fall comes until spring.

I don't change any rugs. I know people who do change rugs and much more, such as drapes/curtains. Too much work and too much to store!

I don’t have rugs in the main living areas.

I changed one out last year. In my family room I had a large jute rug with a smaller layered over it. For Christmas I bought an inexpensive xmas plaid rug and used that as the top layer for the holidays. I loved it!

Not sure what I will do this year though since I now have a different rug in that room. It was not my intent but a rug I bought for my bedroom ended up looking better in the the FR. I think I will use the plaid rug in the MBR or guest room or somewhere different this year. I just roll it up back into the shipping bag and stored it in the attic with the other decorations.

There was a thread a year or so ago where the lady had a bright pink rug but at Christmas she changed it out for a red one. If you have the space to store it then I say do it! Personally I would look for a thinner, lightweight rug to use since they can get heavy. Maybe you could even just place it over your existing rug so you don't have to move that out.
