Can you post a photo of the space?

Paint it red! (or purple or orange or yellow or chartreuse.)

How about using a curtain instead of a door? Something pretty on a decorative rod. Or a French door with frosted glass, or something like this

where's the picture?

This is what it looks like now. The shower will be a linen closet.

How wide will the new door space be? Looks wider than standard door. wondering if it will need to be 2 doors etc. May be something. On order Of Partim suggestion- etched glass insert? Curious- where’s your shower going to be or have you eliminated it?

Mirrored doors?

Omigoodness, so many options besides plain white boring doors: Glass that is patterned or plain with a patterned window film on the inside (much more affordable), mirrored, cloth lined as someone above suggested or a wonderful bright paint :

I would add molding to the door and paint it an unexpected color. In the first and last photo, ceiling molding is added around the knob. I love that look.

Do you HAVE to install a door? What about just having open shelves? Or a cabinet on the bottom half or two thirds and open shelves on the top?

LOVING these ideas! The opening is 43". What goes in there is mostly folded towels and sheets, toilet paper, big bottles of shampoo, bathroom cleaning products, stuff like that.

The shower is going where you see the tub. It'll be tiled with frameless glass. No tub. Vanity stays where it is, but updated of

course.

I think that is the best idea but it depends on your style . The next best is the frosted glass doors IMO if you tend to like a more modern look. I am curious where do the 2 doors on the side go to

Love Donald's idea! An antique wardrobe or readily available armoire painted a lively accent color :) You can pick these (not antique) wardrobes up now for almost nothing on CL or offer up and paint it yourself.

@Donald

That is a fantastic idea!

Donald’s idea is best for another reason. That shower turned into a linen closet would be too deep for linens and other stuff. Lots would get lost at the back

The door on the left goes to the toilet room. The door on the right goes to walk-in closet for clothing. The bathroom was built without a linen closet. The walk-in is doubling as a linen closet and clothes closet. Which is using up valuable space for clothes.

Another random thought - you said tub is coming out & new tiled shower with frameless enclosure going in. i believe that will result in a small gain of floor space / width between tub & vanity because shower will likely not extend past the alcove walls as the tub does now. Are you also replacing the flooring because of that extra space or will you incorporate some kind of decorative edge from shower floor? Or, will shower floor be tiled or a shower pan?

Great ideas here!

I would have the front look as if it’s a recessed cabinet with glass doors and drawers:

Yes, we are replacing the flooring. And yes, we will gain some width! All these pics of these pretty closets with clear glass -- I am more concerned about storage and functionality than looks, though, I do want a good look! Knowing me, I would obsess about what can be seen through the glass and be irritated if the towels look messy, etc. So I am leaning toward a look where nothing can really be seen inside upon opening the door to the bathroom. I am loving all this help!

Donald or Rho’s ideas. Both would look so nice, and be more useful than a closet. Drawers would be great to have.

If you are gutting the bathroom and getting new counter top material you could have the built in look of the cabinets with solid doors and a counter top of the same material. The depths of the cabinets could be the same or the bottom could be slightly deeper.

I could paint it any color I want, probably white. We really need the storage and would like full access to the entire space. Hmmm

We had our cabinet builder create a hutch-style cabinet. It's 48" wide. The top is set-back like a dining hutch or breakfront would be. The bottom portion has 2 stacks of 4 drawers, but the "drawers" on the right side are fake and it's really a pull-out laundry. I love the pictures posted above, functional and beautiful.

The lighting in this photo is wonky bc we currently have brown paper covering the window while we wait for our shutters, so everything looks yellow. You have so many possibilities. When I was trying to decide what I wanted I looked at a bunch of HOUZZ photos using "hutch in bathroom, "laundry cabinet" and other similar search terms.

If you don't want to look at a white panel door, with function being the priority, you could buy a flat hollow core door altered to look as if it is a French door or door with glass panels in the upper half of it, with a natural view.
