I assumed they meant, can they remove the shingles carefully and then reuse them on the new roof.

sorry for the lack of clarification. we were wondering if it would be possible to cut the structure off and then reassemble- taking off asphalt shingles would be very tine consuming :) so it would be the part above the garage.

we are going to raise the part above the garage to add the bedroom but it's such a shame to waste all of the materials

I know it's a crazy question but that's why I'm asking 😸

Carefully cutting off the roof and lifting the whole thing up, building the bedroom, and setting the whole roof down would take a lot of specialized equipment and huge cranes and what not. And it would cost 1000 times what it would to just rip it off and rebuild.
