Popmama - They are strange aren't they? I have a multiflora that is also setting buds. There's 5 peduncles now all beginning to sprout buds. It just finished blooming about three weeks ago, and now there are more coming. I have to admit though, it's a serious nectar dripper! I put little post it note stickers all around under it so as to catch the drips. It's one messy plant!

I also have a lacanosa that sits in the same eastern south eastern wondo that has dozens of peduncles on it. I just hope the bud out and bloom since I can't wait to smell the perfume.

Have you ever propagated the multiflora? My plant is only two branches, and I'm hesitant to snip it to make more since it's doing so good. Maybe in the spring I'll gather up the courage to do it. So, have you tried propagating them? If so, how did you do it?

Yes, I have propagated this one. I just made a cut and put it in a jar of leca with a water reservoir. It rooted easily. The cutting had a peduncle on it and it bloomed while it was rooting.

Once it had decent roots, I potted it in potting soil and traded it for a hoya bella (one I did not have).

Nice to see the juxtaposition of the multiflora setting blooms against the snow in the background (although I used to enjoy snow as a kid - now that I have to shovel it - meh!)

I will probably try to propagate my plant in the spring. For now I'll just let it bloom and be happy. One person on here (stupidlazydog) was kind enough to send me a cutting of ororata which I'm in the process of rooting now.

Her generosity overwhelmed me. I promised to pay it forward when it's grown out and large enough to share. It's nice to see so many people from different backgrounds and countries sharing a common "hobby". each has something to offer and each has something to learn.

Oh it's gorgeous!! Mine has not bloomed yet, and I just repotted it into a bigger pot. Thinking about getting some leca and trying some propagation with it. Picked off a few yellow leaves, but hopefully it's nothing too serious. Oh gosh, snow already?! Here, the sun is shining, but it's colder. We could use some precipitation, actually. Melt some snow water for your plants (heating it up, of course lol), and they'll love you forever. I'll have to give my plants some orchid food via misting.

meyermike, I could probably spare a cutting if Bill cannot. Multiflora has leaves that aren't as succulent as most hoyas, so I am not sure how well it ships. But if/when the weather warms up, I could give it a try. I've had success shipping other cuttings so I'm game!

moonwolf, you are so right about melting snow to use to water plants. I should do that! I will fill a bucket today with some snow from my deck and let it melt. :-)

I only water with rain water too. You should see how many gallon jugs I fill up and barrels after it rains. Spray bottles too. If you saw my collection of water you would laugh. Ha.

Popmama, I actually filled 20 gallons from a 30 gallon barrel this morning I let fill up under the roof gutter. My hands were frozen but well worth it. Need it especially for orchids and for most plants that do horrible with salt deposits and chemicals.

meyermike, send me a message with your mailing address. If the weather looks decent next week, I'll put it in the mail to you. Our weather fluctuates wildly here. Yesterday it was 65, today 6" of snow. But I can look at the forecast between my state and yours and see if it will be ok. It should be fine as long as I ship on a Monday.

It doesn't have much of a scent. At least I don't detect one.

I was really reluctant to buy multiflora. It seemed sort of lackluster to me. But I had a friend who had managed to buy about a dozen rather large ones from a wholesaler and she talked me into buying one from her. I am glad she did. It's a neat plant. It's very un-hoya if you ask me, but still a cool plant.

Meyermike - I won't be clipping the multiflora at this time because it's starting to bloom again and honestly, I'm afraid to clip it and try propagating during the winter. It's only two stems at the moment, but I'm sure come spring I'll be able to snip a piece and root it, which hopefully would encourage it to branch out. I also think it'll be too cold now to ship something with thin leaves like these have. I know Popmamma offered you a clipping, but be careful about the weather. While the packages do sit in warehouses which are somewhat shielded from extreme cold, they also ship on aircraft and drive in USPS trucks which experience the full force of the cold. We wouldn't want to see you receive a frozen pile of mush, so I would just recommend hanging in there for a few months until spring arrives, they you may be inundated with plant clippings!

You do make a solid argument, Bill! The weather can be unpredictably chilly this time of year. I did receive a box of cuttings just few days ago and they were all fine. But anything can happen!

Meyermike - as far as fragrant - I don't know. I've just about shoved an entire bloom up my nose and smelled nothing! Now if we're talking about drooling nectar, that's another story altogether. They are copious drippers. so much so that I have additional papers under the blooms so as not to get the nectar all over. It is very sweet tasting - yeah, I tried it. Multiple times! However I don't know about fragrant. Maybe mine just wants to annoy me.

I have a carnosa that just finished blooming and it wasn't fragrant either - bummer. Now I have a lacanosa starting to set buds and if it doesn't get pissed off at me and drop them, maybe it will be fragrant. I don't know as this is the first year I've owned her.

Now if you want fragrant, I have a Brassola Nodosa https://www.aos.org/orchids/orchids-a-to-z/letter-b/brassavola.aspx that when it blooms in the winter my entire house is filled with fragrance for weeks. I have a two story house and it permeates every room on every floor! I keep it outside in full sun over the summer, then on a windowsill come end of September till May. It takes all that energy and pumps it into blooms over the winter.

Another fragrant plant is a dracaena fragrans https://www.ourhouseplants.com/plants/dracaena-fragrans this puppy is overwhelming at night when it blooms. My original plant was over seven feet tall, so this year I chopped it up, started some pups and gave them to my family. I'm hoping the parent, which I've planted the top, will again reward me with blooms, but I'm not sure because it had to set all new roots etc. Time will tell. It too is a horrendous nectar dripper and yep - I've tasted it and it's very sweet too (I think in a previous life I may have been a bee!).

If you give the dracaena the right care (they're easy to grow) I'm sure you will be very happy when it blooms. Oh - and be sure to taste it's nectar! Bzzzzzz.......

Bill, funny you should mention that but I had the most small Dracaena last winter and it was just sweet!! Smelled so god. I put it outside in the summer and left it in a pot with o hole. Guess what happened when I noticed it was sitting in full water after a month or so? You guessed it. I am still trying to recover that thing and hope it comes back. The leaves are still turning black. Ugh. It was my favorite houseplant. The taller one never flower for me. The nursery still does not have this one where I got it last yea. I think it's irreplaceable(( It was only 2 feet high loaded with blloms(((

The Nadosa, I never thought to grow one in my house. I have a few and I always leave them in my small greenhouse which I never get to enjoy in the dead of winter. I should bring that fragrance inside, Hey if you want something that will knock your shoes off with night time fragrance, easy to grow, try a Queen of the knight!! I had one that I grew from 6 inches that gt to 6 feet and 3 feet wide within 5 years, but I left that outside after cleaning my plant room and forget to bring it in when it went down to 19 degrees..UGH. I was toasted after all these years. o I ordered two more from Logee's lol Yesterday in fact. I can't go without this fragrant pant.

The multiflora dripped a bit today so I decided to give it a taste. It's pretty amazing. Taste and consistency just like Karo syrup! Very sweet.

Here's a picture of my multiflora setting some blooms. I have a half dozen or so TD Bank post-it notes below it to adsorb all the nectar which drops off. This plant is enjoyable to watch but a copious nectar dripper. If it gets onto anything it's very difficult to remove. It sits in a southeastern window, about 3" from the glass. It's in the high 60's to 70's during the day but drops to about 67 degrees at night. You can see the nectar from previous blooms on one of the lower leaves. It refuses to come off! Aughhhh.....

I water this plant about every other day in winter. I just shoot a couple squirts of rain water into it's pot with a hand sprayer. The soil stays moist but not drenched and it never dries out either. I do the same regime for my bella and my lacanosa. Bella is starting to grow two or three peduncles and the lacanosa has over a dozen on it, but they always seem to blast. There are two now that look more promising.

So, just thought I'd give something nice to look at during these dreary days in lockdown.

Yes, it's definitely something beautiful to look at. I read somewhere that misting the buds with orchid spray can help prevent bud blast. I bought a non-Miracle Grow orchid spray and that did seem to work on my multiflora (At least I think that's what saved the buds this time).

I have to try that with my lacanosa. I use Epiphyte's Delight which I'll mix with a few drops of super thrive (the jury is still out on the effectiveness of ST) and see if it'll help the lacanosa from blasting.

I've used a combination - either Schultz's Orchid food, Miracle grow for orchids or epiphyte's delight. I kinds of grab whatever is handy and use it. Maybe the various ingredients all work together? My solutions are extremely diluted anyway, and I do rinse with rain water occasionally so no salt build ups. It seems to work.

My multiflora is developing a peduncle of it's own! Just noticed it this morning! Hopefully, I'll have flowers in time for the holidays! Motoskei's slowed down a bit. I think she got a little too dry and some of them blasted (ugh!!), but there's still some hanging on.

I don't know know about for the holidays. My multiflora is so slow watching grass grow, in the winter, is faster! You'll get flowers, but late January is you're lucky.
