You just need a low groundcover to fill the space after you redo the path to the lawn. In the tropics there will be a number of choices. Blue Daze, Evolvulus glomeratus, is a good one that has thick coverage without running amok. Go groundcover shopping at good local nursery. Not the Big Box.

If the kids use that route between poolside and lawn they’ll be tramping across the grass. Depending on your rainfall and the amount of foot traffic it could become a dust track or a mud patch. I think it needs a solid path.

Thank you all for the advice!! We ended up doing a path and added grass! Still working on the ground cover plans for the sides around the trees.
