if you're not using the patio/ converted deck while you're at the pool, step down to the pool.

I say keep the porch area level with the pool, especially since you will have an outdoor kitchen, etc. Do you have kids yet? If not, think of how much easier it will be for them as well to have the porch area level with the pool. Easier access for taking breaks, snacking, etc.

P.S. - thank you both for your service in healthcare during this awful year.

I would keep the patio on level with the house, and then step down to the pool deck. This will accomplish several things -

1) make the indoor/outdoor living more seemless

2) Give you a superior view over the pool while you use the deck, which is better to watch over young swimmers

3) Allow for unimpeded access to the deck for elderly, handicapped, or injured people

4) Gives a bit more "shake and drip" opportunity for people coming from the pool to the house, so as to keep as much water outside as possible

I like a smooth transition from main house to deck and the step down to the pool area. I aslo like the deck flooring to look like a continuation of the indoor flooring at least in color
