you could do all carpet.

or, do wood treads that match your hardwood, and paint the risers to match the color of the gray tile. Leave them like that (your toddler will be fine w/wood stairs) or install a runner over them.

btw, if your bottom floor is that gray tile, I wouldn't use red oak on the treads.

Look into a neutral white oak that you can stain to match your tile.

here's a 2" white oak

red oak will always have a bit of pink tone to it if you go light.

not mine. just google, 'white oak stair treads'. tons of them out there. they have some 2-3" ones similar to the one you showed, for 107 or so.

but the thinner ones (like 2" or 1 1/2" ) are around $50 or so
