Front Elevation Dilemma

Hi Everyone!

We are thinking of having an addition over our house and having a front porch as well. We plan on keeping the lower level mostly as is.

I'm needing advice on how to get a more cohesive look with the addition. I don't want a flat and tall elevation. I'm not really sure how to achieve that.

Some option. You can play with upper part making it wider/longer...etc

If you mean a 2nd storey you need to find out if that house can support a 2nd storey to begin You need an arcchitect and probably first a structural engineer , there is no way to keep the main floor the same as it is since you will need space for astaircase for sure which BTW will eat up a lot of sq footage .

Consider dormer windows for the second story to avoid a flat/tall elevation.

Thank you! I have gotten the structure checked and we have a go ahead. the main floor has allowances for stairs as well but the entrance doors and windows would pretty much be in the same spot.

A great porch and enhancing the entry can add a lot of personality to a big square house...keeping the addition on the same foundation shape will cost less......trying for a different size upstairs will be fraught with challenging decisions and added expense...lastly keeping your investment/ changes .....in line with surrounding home values and styles.... is always good idea...

@Celery. Visualization, Rendering images these are gorgeous!! I love it! it would probably add a front porch like some others have suggested! But i really do love the first image! Thank you all for your feedback!
