Hook-on high chairs on granite

Hi! I have a kitchen island with a granite countertop. The granite is roughly 1 and 1/8ths thick. My question is that if I do a hook-on high chair for my son will he risk breaking the granite? He's roughly 20lbs right now but of course growing and adding on weight. The overhang is approximately 10 inches. I really like the idea of them but my husband is worried about the weight. Thanks!

Hard to tell by the pics but it doesn’t look like there is any support on the bottom of the counter. I would definitely not risk it, not only for the sake of the granite but for the safety of the baby!

I would not be willing to take the risk for the same reasons KR states. There are a number of counter heigh high chairs on the market - I would absolutely use one of those instead.

NO WAY! Granite is not screwed down....the weight of itself holds it in place. If your island had legs, I'd say it's ok....but not your island. If it broke free, it could kill your baby.

I would do it. Your top should be fastened to the cabinets, epoxy or silicone.

I am a fabricator. I would not do it. If there is even a minor existing weakness in the stone (like an invisible buried fissure) you are risking a break with the stone and your baby headed for the floor.
