My former boss installed high quality wood floors (just like in the picture above) in his home. They were beautiful right after they were cleaned. But as soon as someone stepped on them, tracks were visible. Plus within an hour or 2 after cleaning, dust settled back down on them - highly visible.

After seeing his I would never intentionally have these in my home.

People always say this about hardwood. We had floors pretty similar to the above in an urban area rowhome. I never thought the floors looked particularly dirty, so i've never understood what people complain about. As a rowhouse, it wasn't super bright so maybe that's the issue?

I've had dark wood floors for the last 6 years and while they are beautiful, they are a beast to keep clean. We swept at minimum daily and still had dust settling on them that was visible within hours after dusting. Scratches were also quite visible. But the look is so beautiful! We have 3 kids who are 11 and up and we are still changing our floors over to a lighter wood now to help keep a tidier appearance.

My SIL went with dark floors. After moving in she HATED them. Always dirty. She bought a Roomba and is content with them now but would never do dark floors again.

We have not super dark floors but on the darker side (like walnut colored). They DO show more dust, dirt and dog hair than a light colored floor (we've had both dark and light floors). That said, I still love them. Two things that really, really help are first, we don't wear shoes in the house. We never have because I think it's gross but it also prevents the extra dirt from outside from coming in. And second, we have a robot vacuum that we run almost daily. Outside of picking up stray toys that my littles doesn't put away, it's really not a big deal to run and does its thing all on its own. It's wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone!

I have dark laminate floors and really don't notice dust much at all - I only dust/vacuum them every other week and they look pretty good most of the time. I wonder if it depends on how the light hits? But we have a lot of natural light and they still look good. We have no pets or kids so that probably makes a difference. I would say if you love dark floors you should go for it. Everyone tried to talk me out of dark floors when we remodeled and I did not listen and now whenever I walk into my house I am in love with the floors all over again.
