In my opinion, this house should either play up the modern or slightly barn look to it. Right now the door and curtain do nothing to enhance the look of the house. Don't do anything until you have an overall plan. Are you working with an architect? They would be able to best advise you. Folks will need interior photos and a floor plan to make suggestions. My personal suggestion would be to make sure the kitchen is blocked off from the entry- one of my pet peeves is stepping into a home expecting a LR but you’re actually next to the kitchen counter!

Yeah, you have a cool barn/modern vibe going, very interesting and totally worth highlighting. You always want your house to stand out from the crowd.

This home was originally a small cabin and in 1980 was built onto to turn it into a year round home. The lake is directly behind the house at the bottom of a steep hill. The back door is on the back deck and walks directly into the living room. We do have a walkout basement entry but that also isn't practical for an entryway. I will add comments to each picture on what the plans are.

I am standing in the driveway taking the pictures. It is a long straight driveway that goes right through the yard to the house.

Please bear with me as I add photos. The house is messy because I am quarantined with a 5 and 2 year old and in the beginning stages of demo.

In this area I would like to add entry storage like the attached picture but smaller. My husband is worried about losing windows.

The window will be removed (possibly replaced?) That storage is being taken out as the stairs now go straight down. The stairs used to be where the dog dishes are and there was a wall where the new steps lead down. It was a very enclosed space.

The closed door is the pantry we added. The other door is the main bathroom 😔 awful spot for it but that is original to the cabin and there is no where to move it to without doing an addition. The fridge will be moved over and a utility cabinet will go right next to the wall where it currently sits. Fridge will be built into the cabinets.

Post by pass through can not be removed as it is load bearing.

The cabinets you see to the right will also be replaced and turned into a breakfast bar that looks down into the kitchen.

Not sure if these are helpful at all. Here are the options we have considered.

1) center front door and add an equal sized window to each side of it

2) leave door where it is. Change window size to accommodate storage corner of sorts.

3) Do a door with sidelights to allow more natural light in but eliminate the front windows.

If you could add a floorplan with measurement in a large size so it can be read. Whatever size your pictures are is fine.

This is a big job and as mentioned earlier an architect, kitchen desiner and general contractor will save you money in the long run. So many things to consider, building codes not the least. Great you have starting saving pictures of what you would like. I did the same before our remodal (without benefit of small children around) and ended up printing concepts to carry around in my 3-ring binder. New school / old school but it helped so much. Can’t wait to see your progress.

Also, looks like you have a dog. Need to accommodate for that as well. Your hands are full, hang in there!

@Valinta yes we are a busy household! Two little boys, two big dogs, and three cats 🤣 We met with our kitchen guy last night and got that all ordered. We live in a very rural area. The nearest city is well over 200 miles away. My husband is an electrician, my dad a plumber, and my father in law a carpenter 😉 I'm more so seeing if anyone has design ideas. The men know how to get it done but they more so go with the "what is there what is easy " vs thinking outside the box. I want to take full advantage of the unique shape of the home etc.
