HELP - Brown stuff in cupboards near kitchen sink

Hi, I have recently moved into a new property and the top of the cupboards near the kitchen sink are coated in brown stuff. I am no cleaning expert, does anyone know how I can clean this? Thanks!

Pictures of your sink please. Take them standing back far enough that we can see what's going on. I'll bet your sink is leaking.

Hi Joseph, thanks for your response. Here is a picture of the sink, there was a small leak but we had a plumber out last week to fix it.

Is that a waste pipe from a second floor running through the counter and cabinet which is adjacent to the sink? It looks as if the particle board base of the laminate countertop has been damp for a long time and has developed mineral residue and/or mold.

If that's what it is, you might spray it with peroxide to kill the mold, then after it's thoroughly dry, paint with oil-based enamel to seal it.
