Well what I guess I should had said , I’m looking for great windows as far as energy efficiency is concerned and good installation. Have 4 estimates

    Zen Nirvana (Soft-lite classic)

    Sunrise Essential

    Vytex Fortis

    Vytex Potomac

    all double paned

just so confused about the installers in this area since windows are not something people buy every day.

The Potomac is the best of the bunch, then Fortis, Nirvana and then Essential.

    Thank You

Is it’s worth the price difference between the Potomac and Fortis? about 2000.00. Don’t have any plans to move and the house is 20yrs old.

What’s the reason for installing replacements?

drafty, freezes us on cold days forced us to turn up thermostat to 76 or 78 to compensate. In the summer it the reverse AC runs almost constantly doing the hot part of the day.

Vinyl has good stats at year one. Fiberglass at year 10 and beyond. The Modern line will give you glass area no vinyl window can come close to. Elevate and Essential will also give you better glass area.

This could be true but I’m sure you have no data to back your claims. There is really only one stat that I see changing and that is air infiltration performance. You should either provide your data Or rephrase your reply to start with ”imo” or “from my experience “ And share what you have seen. The Potomac Has specs that blow the modern away , at least initially and IMO the Marvin can‘t surpass in a year or 20. My guess is you never seen a Vytex window and are full of it with actual data that is irrelevant. Marvin is fine product but they are not focused on performance. Perhaps they’d be the best if products were tested a year later for performance but unfortunately that is not the case , I would find such data very interesting as long as it wasn’t Marvin doing the test and comparing it to a $100 vinyl Jeld-wen as a representative of all vinyl windows. You are here clearly to promote what you sell and have no real interest in helping anyone but your self.

I think the 2k difference in price may be worth it, depends on how may windows, how much you appreciate the differences between the 2. I would recommend looking at both and judge for yourself. The Fortis is pretty good and I have no problem either way.

If it's installed correctly it shouldn't matter on what you get. I install windows all the time and most of the time all the new windows especially double pan windows only issue I run into is the seals breaking and the windows fogging up inside from user error not installer error.

Even though installation is key, it does matter what you get. If you actually installed you would know this.

Lol, good one. Even the top grade windows can be as bad as the low grade windows. Just saying so it really doesn't matter he will be replacing in 5 to years 10years anyways.

LOL even louder , you are clearly an idiot.

Lol, well that's awesome. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

@bmc5905dan: What kind of windows do you have currently? Have you considered alternatives to replacement, such as window film (reduces heat gain in summer plus offers protection from fading furnishings) and thermal curtains to stop heat loss in the winter? How about acrylic inserts? Climate Seal acrylic storm windows are a really cool product (no pun intended).

The personal experience I have is with Marvin Infinity fiberglass. These required installation by the dealer. We were able to install as new construction instead of replacement because of the size of the outside trim. And we increase the vertical size of the openings for a couple. Marvin has specific installation instructions on their site. We worked before and with the installers. We did the interior finishing. They are replaced now by Elevate or Essential.. . .Install vid-

This is a video showing the problems with some vinyl windows over time.

I am a huge proponent of Marvin but that is utter nonsense for the most part. LMAO.

    Sammy:

I have whatever windows the builder put in, did have window film installed several years back which did help some but since most opening are 64x76 or larger with two windows side by side and there is nine double openings or 18 windows total, think most of my issues are from those window, the 6 pictures windows I seem fine but when I pass a smoke stick by the DHs there is a good deal of air movement noticed. Not sure if that the proper test for air leakage ( but you know Internet )

LMCO. substitute 'c' word for 'a' word.

It's like buying a Neon or a Civic. You save a couple thou while you're in the dealership. But as you walk out the door you're behind. And it just gets worse over the miles. Until the ball joints are gone on the Dodge at 70k. The Honda doesn't needs struts til 120k. Neon is already gone to the crusher because its got a cast iron crank and rods that oval out by then. A Civic has forged stell crank that lasts til 250k. . . .But even though the sales guy knows all this no way will he give you his unbiased opinion. Because no one of those is unbiased. That's why they're not anyone I'd ever ask for information.

There are undoubtedly vinyl windows that are 'better' than other vinyl windows. But they also cost more. Sometimes a lot more. You just don't get consumer recognition of those quality differences in the marketplace. It's always seen as a lower quality product. Earned from years of experiences. . . .And one thing no vinyl window gives you is glass area for view. Fiberglass produces more glass area than vinyl. No examples say otherwise.

Your personal experience is a bit lame and You have no data to back anything you said. Matt will pimp anything he getting paid to pimp. So you are just a homeowner that was moved by Matt’s videos and so impressed with your windows and your contractors ability to follow Marvin’s instructions?

That is true. He will sell whatever he is giving for his own projects. Pretty sure this has been shown before.

Thanks everyone for their help and comments. Signed a contract to have the Fortis installed. Wife thought they looked better then the Potomac.
