That might be the beginnings of callus. It doesn't look unhealthy to me. (Good pics BTW)

That ‘white stuff’ is the cutting starting to root. It’s a pity you pulled it up to look but if you replant gently and resist the urge to keep checking, it should be ok.

what happened was that I accidentally hit a chair and I dropped the pot it was in. but thanks for the info!

also how would I know if it has developed roots without pulling it out?

If they have leaves they need as much light as you can give them while maintaining warmth.

well to give you guys an update the leaves are wilting and well i dont know what to do now. I read somewhere that it may have used all the stored energy in the stem. Can cuttings still root with no leaves? or any recommendations?

Yes they can root without leaves. Do you have a plastic bag over them?

I made a propogation box and I have two glasses of water for humidity. I tried the bag method and the cutting was touching the bag.

But to answer your question, I out them in the propogation box

If the medium is sufficiently damp and the propAgation box is airtight you don’t need glasses of water. Is there condensation on the inside of the lid? There should be. And do you have bottom heat? That helps a lot. With a bag it doesn’t really matter if the cutting touches it as long as you ventilate periodically. Or just use a bigger bag if it bothers you.

yes there is condensation inside. but I dont have any bottom heat. do i have to leave it on 24/7

yes, if you use heating pad, it should run continuously.
