looking for decorating house

Hello! I’m looking for decorative feedback! I love our space, but think it could be a lot more inviting. I’m just not sure what to do.
Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thank you!

I can’t see what’s in front of the couch but it doesn’t appear you have an area rug there. That would immediately warm up the space. Also something to consider would be a console table behind the couch, with some interesting objects, books, greenery on it.

I would paint all frames black.

I agree with getting an area rug and sofa console table.

How about adding a runner to the table and putting a colorful planter?

try this layout ( pretend tv is the fireplace) BTW, beautiful fireplace, floors and windows.

don't know if you're in the market for new sofa. you can try it w/the brown leather one against the window, move the black one somewhere else, and get these other elements.

rug, side table, coffee table or ottoman, a few chairs. positioned just like this.

move the larger sofa under window (and just take away the black one). take another picture.

do you have an area rug you could use for size? A flat weave like this would work.)

or, try two smaller sofas placed lie this, rug, tables. (forget the chairs)

Spectacular "bones" - especially those wide floor planks! Are the built-ins next to the fireplace for a tv? The furniture is a great start but is missing the "comfort factor" - tables on which to place a drink, table or floor lamps, etc. I'd also try shifting the two sofas a couple of feet away from the windows. Lastly, there is something 'off' about the arrangement of family portraits over the fireplace. I like the idea, but maybe they need to be re-hung with a tighter grid or something.

Agree with others about area rug, console table, lamps and side tables. A couple of large plants would also help. Personally I would consider moving the family photos somewhere else. Everything else in the room is rather minimal and all the pictures fight with that.

Pictures would look better on the empty wall space between your brown doors and the opening to the next room. Leave the above the FP area plain. Your floors are amazing!

Hi just wanted to show you what a painting might look like-large abstract to add a bit of color and wow-factor-below I put my painting "Where Mermaids Play" on your wall and looks great. Check out my website for more-I do commission work also and keep pricing under budget, L Daniels

    Actual Painting looks like this:

LDaniels,, sorry, but this is spammy. and an abstract art really doesn't work in this particular room w/her furniture and overall farmhouse design. your piece looks completely out of place in her room.

more of a landscape type of painting would be more appropriate there.

Great room!!!! I would move the oversized chair/ love seat (?) that is under the windows to the other side. Maybe somewhere lined up between the double doors on the FP wall. Scoot the brown leather sofa centered on the FP. Yes, definitely add a rug and tables with greenery and lamps, candles, pillows etc. To soften up the room to look cozy. I would also remove your picture display that is above the FP. It’s a bit overwhelming for your space. Maybe one good sized pic over FP and greenery in various heights on mantel to the right. I could see a tree or shelving unit on the nook to left of FP. Again ... AMAZING space!

Definition from Wikipedia: "Spamming is the use of messaging systems to send an unsolicited message (spam) to large numbers of recipients for the purpose of commercial advertising, for the purpose of non-commercial proselytizing, or for any prohibited purpose (especially the fraudulent purpose of phishing)." My opinion that the main difference is: Anyone posting to Design Dilemma is of their own free will soliciting for ideas, comments or suggestions for commercial products or otherwise. Many room design and home furnishing commercial products are posted as suggestions from commenters to individual posts as the norm. LDaniels doesn't fit the description for the definition of a spammer on this public forum even if they own the products suggested because they have only commented to a post and their comment is only read by those who want to read it. Did I miss anything? I don't think Houzz has a contractual stipulation that they own all the comments, ideas and suggestions on this public forum site, and that they control the commercial products advertised- Yes ? No?

Juli, when they post the same message on repeated dilemmas such as , " I think this artwork would be nice in your space" and repeatedly hawk their own artwork (Never any other products or never any advice that doesn't include their product) yes, it's spammy. its using this forum to commercially advertise their own goods.

    Did I miss anything?

yes, yes you did miss something.

all them hawk his art. All of them link back to his site. all them promote his artwork.

Now you tell me if that's not spammy.

Adding a nice rug, along with a coffee table, some lamps, and end tables might work really well. You can also add some blankets and pillows to the sofa and chair to warm things up more.
