mini white subways versus regular white subways for kitchen backsplash? Also plan to use grey grout, but which color?

If you mean grey grout like in this ideabook then I would do regular subway tile since the contrasting grout will make a statement and it may be too busy with small tiles

I was concerned about that. Which grey--oyster gray, sillver shadow, or delorean all seem good--not too dark or light.

Does anyone have pictures of the mini white subways (2x2) in a kitchen backsplash with grey grout?

I too prefer mini subway tile to have grout in a similar shade as the tile to reduce the busy effect. But I also prefer that look with full sized subway tile.

Thanks--it might be too busy with the dark grout--starting to like the larger tiles better now.

I have verde butterfly granite countertops and white cabinets. I have been round and round all ideas and think I will just stick with classic white subways (cheaper than the crazy prices I've seen in the higher end stores). Will go with a light gray grout I think to add some dimension.

I'm with you on this one, Margo. I too prefer either matching grout or one small shade darker or lighter than the tile for a more subtle effect.

Do you have a picture? Was thinking the white on white with white cabinets would be too blendy. I have a pale green wall in kitchen. How do you bring in color and dimension?

I wish I knew how to transfer pic from computer to site, working with my husband on that;)

The beauty of it , is, the clean-classy look- I have soft yellow walls. I have my color in accessories, area rug.

I'm hoping Margo can post a picture since that will be closest to your kitchen choices, but just in case it is helpful here is a photo of my ivory cabinets with matching "bone" subway tile and one tiny shade darker "alabaster" grout. At least you can get the general effect of an almost matching grout. The look we were going for was classic and minimalist. You may want something with more movement.

For conversation sake, and me being computer challanged, I found a similar pic from Houzz as mine. I don't have an island tho,and my walls are yellow. I am showing this for white subway, white grout, black counters, white cabinets. Notice the red highlights brought in for color;) I also do not have the ceiling but it is on my wish list.

Use white grout, the backsplash will get too busy with the granite.

Thanks so much for your tips! It's nice to know there are other people with similar renovation questions/problems! I love the alabastor even though it is lighter than the greys I thought I would use.

I have another question about the size of the grout lines. We've decided to use the 3x6 inch subways with a very light gray grout.

For subway tile the grout lines usually are as small as possible. Usually 1/16'' is the smallest they can achieve, though you can choose to go wider for a different effect.
