Soil; new beds spring 2021; Omaha, NE

I'll try this one last time....

New purchase of a 1948 house Dec 2020, no garden or landscaping. Consulted w pro landscaper. Will bring in many yards of dirt for a berm to raise slope 18 inches and to add 6-8 inches in backyard to level it more. Plan to plant understory trees, one noble tree for future inhabitants, shrubs, grasses, evergreens, and perennial/annual beds.

Some of you have great knowledge of soil science - I need your suggestions. What questions do I ask about the soil being brought in? Does compost or amendments need to be added? Current soil seems to be adequate in texture and drainage - I dug down 8-12 inches in a couple areas to check . I assume it needs nutrients and organic matter - should I get a soil test? Some say not to amend the soil but if you are raising the ground????
