Have a plan before you do anything, for a unified look. You can certainly have a paneled wall behind your bed. Just have a piece made (or DYI) that follows the slope. That way it will look like it totally belongs. If you'll be DYI, get 6" molding. With a pencil, design and draw your paneling for the wall. Cut and attach the molding to the wall. Paint. Keep in mind that you have a few styles going on in this room - so I'd keep the paneling rather classic.

I hope you are planning to paint the walls. Most of the colors in your room are cool, except for the walls. They need to be a cool color also. Here are cool colors: Bright white, gray, silver, taupe, ice cool pastels, black, navy, royal blue, pine green, forest green, Kelly green, bright yellow. Here are warm colors: off-white, cream, tan, beige, orange, brown, olive green, golden yellow, gold. @Color Zen, thanks for the ideas. We are planning to replace the carpet in the next three months and want to tie in in with whatever design we decide on for the room as a whole. I hate that fan but I do get really hot and use it all summer. I also have a tower fan by my bed you may have noticed:). maybe I can find a more decorative fan that would look better but still give me the fan aspect. Do you think white walls would just make the black bed to stark in contrast?

@Elaine Doremus Resumes Written, thanks for the recommendations. We would plan to DIY the paneling as I did a board and batten in our basement and am itching to use my nail gun again:). I like the idea of taupe nightstands. i think the lack of uniform style is what bothers me so much. There is nothing pulling it all together. The walls are a sand color from Sherwin Williams. They are a flat paint which we have slowly covered in other places in the house with their Latte paint in eggshell so it’s a richer color. Would you consider that warm or cool and would it work? Love the wall sconces!!!!! Love. And the idea of a wall molding. ( don’t think I’d do a diagonal but that’s for another time) do you like a fan? Wanna replace? What are you planning to change the carpet to? Will you need a rug? I’m unsure about the furniture. I think maybe ikea hack built ins. Or maybe build a bigger closet. The room is an awesome size btw. Also. I think someone mentioned but I second it. Paint the ceiling and walls the same color.

If you want to find out what style you like, put them in top search box, one at a time - transitional, traditional, eclectic, etc. Note what you like and what you don't like. The color you mentioned - SW6108 is a warm color. I prefer to have either all warm or all cool colors in a room - gives it a unified look. There are a lot of different blues - explore on the SW colors by family to find one you like.

Some simple ideas for excitement—layering a rug under the bed on top of the carpet, a tall plant/tree, a bench at the foot of the bed and a chandelier instead of the fan.

Also updating the bedding and adding a few mixed/matched throw pillows is an easy update!

Thanks @Beth H. :. I love these ideas. We will be replacing the carpet with carpet:). As much as I love wood and even luxury vinyl, I don't want to hear my dogs walking and waking me up at night! Looking to get a better grade of carpet and one that will help bring the room together. I love the paneled accent walls and agree that the current color does nothing for the room.

Looking at your pictures really helps me understand how dark our room is compared to the ones you shared. we have so much natural light on our main floor complemented with white couches and a plush white/cream rug. I love how light and bright that room is and want to have more of that in our bedroom. I love the look of lighter, upholstered beds but we aren't planning to change our bed. It was custom made and solid wood and will likely last forever:). I'm concerned the black will look very stark against a light wall but I'm willing to try it. I like one of the earlier suggestions to paint the walls and ceilings the same color due to the sloped/angled shapes. Do you think it would work with such a big, bold bed with light walls?

I think your dark furniture can absolutely work with lighter walls. You can bring in a few deeper tones of your new wall color in bedding, a throw, or artwork so the furniture isn't the only darker color in the room. I would keep the ceilings white even with a light paint on the walls, but you'll get differing opinions on that. Search the House bedroom photos for "black bed" and you'll see lots of options that work for wall colors. Color is very personal so you have to see what you respond to.

Blue looks great with dark wood.

I would start with a piece of art to add life to the room. Since you love blue, maybe a landscape with lots of blue sky, or a seascape. Doesn't need to be expensive but should be something you enjoy looking at, and large enough to have an impact. Then choose blue and white bedding to complement the blues in the art.

I’m coming back for an update:). I have put some test colors on the wall. Simply white by BM is on the right, Snowbound by SW is on the left and the blue is Icy Breeze by SW. I thought the blue might be nice as an accent wall but I really don’t like it. Any thoughts on snowbound versus Simply White? Thinking maybe snowbound is better since it’s a bit cooler I think but I think simply white is a little brighter. Thinking we will do all the walls and the ceiling the same color and still planning to add paneling behind the bed like in the attached picture.

We are also adding Ikea Pax Wardrobes, looks like we will place them on both sides of the window. They will look built in with baseboards and crown molding. Including a few work in progress pictures. The doors on the pax are slightly creamier than the snowbound.

We are eliminating our dressers and thinking of getting a nice chaise for the wall across from the bed.

Would love some feedback on the color choice for paint and any suggestions for carpet and bedding would be great too:)

Decide on the material and color of the flooring before you finalize a wall color. For the walls, I would look for a deeper white that has more contrast to the white cabinets, either warmer/more beige than the cabinets or with a touch of blue. I'd also leave the ceilings white, so they blend in with the cabinets and have contrast to the walls.

Simply White is a warmer neutral. I have it on my walls and love it. changing the temp of your bulbs will give your white a cooler look.

@calidesign, thank you. That room is very pretty! I love the lighter bed but our current bed is the only thing we won’t change in the room:). It was suggested we paint the walls and ceiling the same to eliminate all the angels and slopes of the walls and ceilings. What are your thoughts on that and the paneled wall like this behind the bed?

We have engineered hardwoods in the hallway off of the master and in our office which is next door, I think we will have to stick with carpet for flooring. I would lovw a lighter luxury vinyl but I think it would be too many floors on our upstairs level. The hallway floors are fairly new and match our first floor. Here is a pic.

Not a pro but this room has similar wall and bed colors. The patterned rug and color pillow adds a bit of umph to the room.

@Beth H. :thanks for the reply. The funny thing is that we have white and even some daylight white bulbs in the lights to help since it’s so dark. For some reason, every picture I took looks yellow. Maybe my phone camera isn’t happy with me today:) You can see how yellow the light looks in one of these pictures Compared to the other.

Ideally, I want something that feels classy, but cozy and much brighter than what we currently have. I like the paneled wall idea to bring interest and we need more dimension! I crave natural light, neutrals, white and things that cheer me up in our gray winters! I like the attached pics for example. I’m usually drawn to upholstered beds and light wood floors like the second pic but that’s not really an option for me so I’m struggling:) maybe I’m just all over the place!

I’m wondering why you are installing the wardrobe cabinets on top of the carpet you intend to replace. Shouldn’t the new carpet be installed first?

@luvsparis, we are removing the carpet under the wardrobes and installing them on a base we built. That will allow us to raise them a bit higher and add baseboard molding for a built in look. When we have the new carpet installed it will just go right up to the wardrobes.

The paneled wall behind the bed is a great look when the room needs architectural interest, but it may just add more lines to your room that you don't want, especially once the wardrobes are in. For your carpet, I would choose a light beige/taupe that has enough warmth to work with your wood floors in the hallway and gives you a neutral base in the room. You might consider a berber that provides a little texture. When you paint the walls, you could start with just the walls and not the ceiling to see what you think. You can always continue the color on the ceiling at that point if you want to. You'll get differing opinions here about the ceiling. Be sure to add artwork to the walls. Can you add recessed lighting? You might consider wall sconces or other sorts of builtin lighting if not. And change out your ceiling fan for a bright decorative fixture that you can put on a dimmer.
