I am a fabricator. what approach are you using to remove the stain and what solvent are you using? using a heat lamp to warm the area while the stain removal process is underway often helps. I once had a job where a plumbers assistant used the putty on several different countertops. we were successful removing the stains.

I followed the instructions on DuPont Stonetech oil stain remover and it worked for about 90% removal of the stain. I didn't put it on as think as the video, but I reapplied multiple times.

I then tried Stone Care International granite stain remover following the instructions that recommended covering with plastic, and that product actually made the stain worse and it looked as bad as it did before I first started. I waited for a week for it to dry out to make sure it wasn't just residual moisture. It wasn't. Stone Care created a new stain. I had to use the remainder of the Stonetech product to get most of the darkening out again, but still it isn't doing a 100% removal.

try the dupont product again but use a heat lamp or heating pad while the stain remover is working. The stone should only be warm to the touch, not hot.

What kind of heat pad or lamp?

How do I put a pad on the wet poultice?

The DuPont Stonetech oil stain remover has instructions that specifically say to not cover it with plastic. Once, I tried covering it with plastic and it made the stain worse. I had to apply another application without the plastic to get the stain back to the original level.

I ordered another container of the DuPont and some DE. I should get the DE tomorrow and the DuPont in about a week. I'll try using DE and acetone with plastic and try to tape cardboard under the hole and file the hole with the paste.

Won't the acetone mix just dissolve and eat through any plastic cover I try to put over it? I tried working with acetone with gloves before and the acetone dissolved the fingers on the gloves.

I just received the DE.

I wrapped a piece of cardboard with aluminium foil and used duct tape to stick it underneath the soap dispenser hole.

Then I mixed the DE with acetone into a batter like consistency and poured it into the hole until it was overflowing onto the countertop and then covered it with aluminium foil.

I‘ll leave it covered until Tuesday morning and then clean it off and leave it to air dry until Wednesday.

I should receive the can of Stonetech by Wednesday afternoon. If the stain remains, I’ll repeat using the Stonetech oil stain remover with the heating pad for 48 hours and see if that makes the difference.

If that still doesn’t work, I won’t know what else to do.

I pulled the aluminium foil off today and cleaned the dried DE poultice off and it looked like it went from 90% clean to about 98% clean.

I‘m going to let it air out until I get the new can of Stonetech on Wednesday and I think one more treatment is going to get whatever is still remaining.

i‘m pretty sure filling up the hole with poultice is what made the difference.

There must have been more plumbers putty embedded in the hole that could not be drawn out by just treating the top of the counter.

The stain finally came out after more treatments with the DuPont oil stain remover.

I had the plumbing company put in a new replacement soap dispenser and write me a check to refund the original installation charge and reimburse me for all the products I purchased to attempt to remove the stain.
