Pruning old muscadine vines

last modified: 5 years ago

I just bought a property with 2 muscadine trellis, each trellis has 2 plants, 1 vine at each end, vines are running on 2 wires for 10'. I don't think it's been pruned for years, the main vines look mostly dead with no new buds for 6' along the wire until the end where there is a live bud. I think the main vine is alive but will it push out new laterals along the main vine or would It be best to start a new vine to replace the old?

I've kept several laterals for now and was planning on seeing what happens come spring, if no new growth comes from the old vine than I guess it's no good?
