You need a tall plant! If possible a live one, like a palm or olive tree. If not get the best fake you can afford.

I know that you asked about the corner, but I think that you could hang the objects above the sofa in a more pleasing arrangement. First of all they need to be lower - closer to the sofa. Think of the sofa and the objects above it as one grouping. You can cut out pieces of paper the same size as the objects and play around with the arrangement before you re-hang them.

It looks like you did a good job of making a nice grouping over the storage unit on the wall adjacent to the love seat.

As to the corner - I'd put a table with a lamp there. You'll want a table so that people sitting on the sofa and loveseat have somewhere to set a glass, book, etc.

My thought was the same as terezosa - a table with a lamp.

One of my mantras is that if you fully decorate the people level, your high ceilings and walls will look light and airy, not bare.

You have a nice start, you just need to add the finishing touches. Lamps, side tables, couch pillows, people level art, a coffee table, etc. Those items will ground the space and make all the decor look more cohesive and less disjointed.

First, congratulations on your new home! And yes, as mentioned already, a table and lamp for your corner area. If it were me, I’d look for a nice, big, square. wood end table. One with some bulk/mass, as opposed to a dainty, spindly one. As for a lamp for it, one again with some bulk to it, instead of a tall, skinny one. Sit down on your sofas and think about sitting there reading. You want a lamp whose lampshade‘s bottom edge comes below eye level, as you don’t want the lightbulb to glare into your eyes. Check out your consignment shops for some excellent prices on great quality tables, lamps, and wonderful framed art for your walls! I’ve found quite a few great buys for my own home at them.

One word of advice from this avid decorator: decorate for YOU! Surround yourself with with art, colors, throw pillows, etc that make YOU feel happy and welcome and comfortable!
