Wallpaper behind a range?

I'm thinking of wallpapering the corner where my range sits - think backsplash look with a (no texture) brick-style pattern wallcovering. This is a standard, nothing-fancy GE electric range with about a six inch high 'riser' at the back where the knobs and digital display are. Wonder if anyone has experience and if there are any special factors I might need to consider.

I had textured, washable wallpaper behind my free-standing range for 16 years, with no issues. I kept an extra roll of paper, and in that time re-papered the section above the sink (above integrated laminate backsplash) at least three times, due to splashing issues. I loved that paper--used it in two houses--but by the time I remodeled 10yrs ago I was ready to go paperless. I now have beadboard behind the range--with no issues--and marble behind the sink.
